What Is One Book You Wish Everyone Would Read?

I'm on spring break next week, and I want to read a good book.

My book is The Thursday Murder Club, and I recommend the audio version because the reader of the first two books does an outstanding job with the voices.

Tell me what your best rec is!
 
I Must Betray You
Novel by Ruta Sepetys

This is a young adult book but I recommend it because it was so eye opening. It is set in Romania in 1989. I had no idea that it was that bad there and what they experienced.

I agree with Lynn. Cloud Cuckoo Land was a great read.

But I have to share my recommendation:

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

My first read of Kingsolver was The Bean Trees. I've read almost everything she's authored, so would recommend any of her works.
 
Thanks for the good recs.

I loved The Nightingale; the character development in the novel was beautiful.
I'm currently #41 for 42 copies of The Women at the library, so obviously it's a good read.

I read The Midnight Library last year, and I love the concept of it and the ending, but I thought it dragged on a little. I would LOVE to live all the lives!

Cheryl, The Poisonwood Bible is the only book by Barbara Kingsolver I've ever read, but it really depressed me and I've never read any of her work since then. I've heard nothing but good things about Demon Copperhead, but the premise of it sounds like it would make me feel yucky. Does it get in your head the way The Poisonwood Bible does?

I added a hold for Cloud Cuckoo Land now; what an interesting premise for a story!

I put Zero Stars on hold, but The Winemaker's Wife is available on Kindle Unlimited, so I can start it tonight! : )

I actually have this in my class library! My son's best friend recommended it for my classroom, but students continually have it checked out, so I haven't read it yet.

LOVED the Poisonwood Bible and didn't care for Demon Copperhead.

I can't say it's less depressing. It's a coming of age story of a young man from Appalachia. Kingsolver was inspired by David Copperfield, and if you know Dickens, then you'll know there's quite a bit of criticism of society, criminal justice, etc. I just found the entire story mesmerizing. I'd definitely recommend getting a copy from your library or e-book supplier that you don't have to pay for - that way you can try it out and aren't out anything. I have to be in certain moods for certain books, you know?

The first book I ever read of Kingsolver's was when I was a sophomore in high school - The Bean Trees. I've been a fan since then.

Over the break, I read and enjoyed The Winemaker's Wife.

Last week, I listened to Zero Stars Would Not Recommend, and I LOVED it. It was fun and unexpected but not so intense that I couldn't put it down. I'd love more recommendations for books like that.

I just checked out Sunrise on the Reaping, but in the next few weeks, I should get the others from my library. They all have a long line.
 
Did you like The Winemaker's Wife? I hope you did! I liked the story a lot. Felt it really went the full circle, and I also like the characters!

I read the Three Lives of Cate Kay... it's my book club book this month. Loved that one too! I wasn't sure by the blurb they give you, but I enjoyed the book and the POVs.
 
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. It is a fascinating look at the criminal justice system and the ways it can go wrong. The stories are great and there's a real sense of satisfaction when the wrongs are righted.
 
This one is old but I wish everyone would read The Giver. I feel like it opens your eyes so various perspectives.
