the "old scrapbooking"?

I mean, remember those times when kits were smaller and when we used to post at DST (was that the name? lol) and My Scrapbook Art (I used to loooooooove that gallery/forum)? :D

I think what I miss most is when people used to do pretty title works.
And journal!
I remember my English was even worse than today lol and I used to try to read everything to understand what everyone was scrapping... :)

And what about you?
What you miss?

I started with Creative Memories and I remember lots of triangles and ovals with the cut shapes.

I got into digital with The digi Files site
 
I started with paper scrapping. I miss going into a physical store and spending hours looking at allllll the pretty things. And then coming home with new goodies.

I don't miss how long it used to take me to finally cut my paper, and the anxiousness I'd feel knowing I can't 'ctrl z' if I misjudge the size. Going digital was a huge relief in that regard.
 
I really don't miss anything. I remember trying to rotate an element just a bit and having to leave the room for a while waiting for it to finish because my computer was so slow. Technology and digi supplies have just gotten better and better. It's a great time to be a scrapper!
 
I miss when my son and other kids in my life were younger and cuter and happy to be photographed! And events were so fun! I still have plenty to scrap, but I miss those littles!
 
I do really miss all the public galleries that weren't store-specific. Of course, there were also a LOT more stores then so it was nice to have galleries where you could see layouts that used goodies from many different shops in one place.
 
I was a paper scrapper too- and just like jacinda- a collector (still!) of pretty paper! I don't miss the mess though- or how long it'd take to make a one page! I do miss brick & mortar stores- only really have the big box ones here now & they barely have any scrapbooking stuff anymore.
 
I miss all the designers that have retired - Shabby Princess, Dani Mogstad, Michele Coleman and many more ... I have so many of their kits still.

I loved CM's strips and triangles w/stickers layouts. I still have all of my traditional paper supplies b/c I need to finish up a couple of albums ... that's on my retirement to do list. :)

I also miss browsing the local scrapbook stores, but I don't miss the mess or trying to decide what paper/die cut/sticker to use. I love being able to add a paper to a digital layout, then change it (or any element) w/o ruining said element.
 
I miss the abundance of stores and designers, too, along with the non-store specific sites. The non-store challenges were so fun as you could meet new-to-you scrappers and designers. It was so inspiring!

I feel like there's not much "new" happening in digi at this point, which is great in a lot of aspects and understandable, but there was always something new happening back in the day - mostly because we were all just trying to figure stuff out. lol I don't miss the old style kits, though. At. All. I've deleted most of them at this point.

I started paper scrapping when I was pregnant with Olivia in 1996/1997. I did some kind of memory keeping with an album about me and Jay prior to that, but it was more like a smash book than a true scrapbooking album. I don't miss the mess of paper scrapping, but I do miss getting together with my sister-in-law and scrapping the day away at her house or mine.

There used to be so many contests and challenges at the digi sites with stores as well as the general digi sites for scrapbooking. I miss pushing myself to try different things.

I kept a resume of sorts on my blog and these were the things that I documented. I really should scrap a page about it.

I miss going to different cities to meet digi scrappers. That all seemed to fizzle out completely during and following the pandemic.

As far as designs go, I love big collections because I'm a maximalist scrapper, but I can and do scrap with mini kits or smaller collections. I don't miss the products from the past! Well, I have a few faves I've kept over the years, but those are a very small part of my stash.
 
I miss the internet in general before social media took everything over. I think smaller independent sites have really gone by the wayside because it's just easier? for a lot of people to stay in their own individual space on IG or FB or where ever. Even big "catch all" community spaces like Reddit have taken over instead of sites like ours.

It makes me REALLY appreciate those of you who still come to spend time in the community here! When I say "our little corner of the web" I mean little haha :D

It probably makes me sound old, but the internet used to be way cooler than it is now :P

Also, I won a couple of those "best scrapper" events back in the day too Cheryl! It was a good time!
 
As a paper scrapbooker, I miss scrap parties! Getting together with other scrappers and getting pages scrapped. I even miss the fun storage accessories (large tote bags etc).

Digi-wise, I actually miss RAKs. I won a few of those that sent me here to SSD. They were a great way to try a new to you designer or even site. I miss a non store specific place to hang out with other digi scrappers too!

A friend and I host a 3 day scrap retreat twice a year for scrappers that we met on the Stampin’ & Scrappin’ board more than 20 years ago. We had our 20th fall crop this past September.

Some of the gals paper scrap, some digital-scrap, and some do both.

Next month I’m meeting up with a few scrappers I’ve never met IRL at Disney. Should be fun … I love meeting my “imaginary friends” in real life.

It was so exciting! It would go on for weeks and it felt like I always had something to do. It definitely kept me scrapping.

I remember one site, but not the name of it, and I won a Nikon Cool Pix camera!
 
This has me wishing that SSD had done a time capsule at the very beginning to open 20 years later.. which is not that far away.
 
Also similar to what Robin said - i miss when the internet wasn't as popular? not sure how else to explain it but it was different back when there were more message boards and forums vs the various social media sites that are around now.

I think Facebook and other social media changed the landscape of the internet. There was a time when access to the internet wasn't in everyone's hands as it was an expense most people couldn't (or wouldn't) pay for.

There are so many GOOD THINGS, like SSD, that I'm so glad are available. Being able to share my videos, and to scrap live while others are watching is awesome. And I love social media for staying close to my big family. Most of them live here, but we are all busy in our own circles. It does give us less to talk about at family reunions though. LOL

But I totally know what you mean. Somehow it was INTIMATE and WELCOMING. I know I'm feeling that here at SSD. :wub:
 
I do miss all of the message boards and public galleries. I'm a community hobby person. I try to use Instagram in that way. I follow the paper scrappers, travelers notebook ladies, hobonichi journalers. I like to check in and see what everyone is doing. And it should go without saying that I love this Sweet Shoppe community.
 
I miss the public galleries, for sure. It was nice to see a variety of designs from different stores all in one place. I guess that niche has been sort of(?) filled by some FB groups but it isn't the same.
 
I miss that I used to post a page and would get tons of comments and they were genuine. Now I am lucky to get one comment, but I also never comment either.
 
I miss a lot of the things already mentioned! I miss how active forums used to be, both at SSD and non-store sites like DST. I got my start at ScrapBook Bytes (SBB) back before there was SSD, and I remember how much excitement there was before a new site opened. I don't like posting my layouts on social media, even though I do follow scrappers and designers on IG. I miss older designers like Fee Jardine, Julie Billingsley, Shabby Princess, and Gina Cabrera, but digiscrapping has come a long way since then. I miss one - off challenges, when you could do 1 or 2 and post them in a thread Specific to that challenge (like we're doing with this year's Dec challenges) instead of having to complete a bunch and post as thumbnails on a card. And finally, I miss having young kids who wanted to be photographed and more mental energy and time to scrap when I was a SAHM or worked part time.

I miss those type of challenges also! I miss those type of directions! Like: use 1 paper, 2 photos, 3 ribbons, 4 buttons, 5 flowers type of directions! Or when you would get a free challenge template, you could see 20+ different people using one template in all these different ways!

How fun! I have met 3 of my digi scrapping online friends in real life! One has become a very good friend of mine. Sad thing is, none of them scrap anymore! :(
 
I miss when more people scrapbooked and did memory keeping instead of just posting online and using that as the way to remember everything. Although from my social feeds few people are doing that too.

I really DON'T miss convincing paper scrappers that digi was just as legit as they were, and it wasn't 'fake' scrapping.
 
I do kind of miss the general galleries. I love to mix and match kits and trying to stay store-specific either limits what I use or keeps me from sharing my page. (I just made a page for my December album using a Scrap Orchard advent from 2013. Some of the designers are here now but many are not.)
 
One of you mentioned missing the scraps you'd go to when paper scrapping. Back when my daughter was much younger I went to a digi-scrap in Seaside, Oregon which had several CT & designers from SSD. I was sitting with them all for it. Heck we were crowded into bedrooms so there were Shawna & Dani on a blowup mattress in the room I slept in. It was a lot of fun and friendships were made. What fun that would be to do again, renting a big house that accommodate a bunch of us.

I do miss the excitement of going store to store on DSD to see what was available. And I miss DST when in was in its infancy - and I miss MyScrapArt as it did a good job trying to replace DST. (might have got that name wrong). I guess I miss the excitement of the earlier days. I remember Cheryl from Two Peas in a Bucket! I was a little more star struck in the early days and had lots to learn as a designer.
 
I began as a paper scrapper and really miss going to physical stores and seeing all the stuff (and going home with a lot of it! lol). As others have said, I was quite the hoarder! How could I use that gorgeous paper if I didn't have the perfect pictures?

I also miss in-person crops. I would love to get together (through zoom?) and scrap as digital scrappers.

I do still hold in-person "crafty days" (I changed the name because most of the ladies who attend don't scrapbook anymore.
 
I miss our Friday night SSD chats!! My SugarBabe announcement ages ago happened in chat and it was one of the best things ever. :wub:
 
Mostly i just miss my kiddos being little and always cheesing it up for pics!

I also miss crops... It was so much fun to scrap with others.
I also miss speed scraps... I think that's what there were called.. one hour and one step at a time...it would get me out of a scrapping rut occasionally.
