Organizing Scrap Kits

I don't! :D

I do keep track of the kits I've already used and the ones I haven't but I don't track by theme, etc. I've downloaded Biancka's husband's program but haven't tried it out yet -- maybe this weekend!

I am still using it and I do love it. Unfortunately my big problem is that my supplies is a mess so I am trying to organize and clean out.

My taste has changed so I have some kits that I know I will never use so I have decided to just purge.

I gave adobe bridge a chance but it still didn't feel right for me. I've now given in and am using lightroom which I had originally wanted to keep just for photos. It is working quite well but I have so much to tag... all in good time.

No, so sorry........we don't own a Mac so my husband cannot develop software for the Mac.[/QUOTEs }

Oh I'm not complaining, Biancka! I wouldn't expect your husband to program for your friends! LOL I was just letting other people know in case there are other Mac users! I think it's so cool that he made it for you - that's love! There's a valentine's day page for you!

Thank you, I know.......that if he did have a Mac, he would've already developed this program for Mac users as well :) And yes, I am very lucky that he made this program for me...I just wish I thought about asking him way sooner than I had......I found a lot of duplicate kits that I bought. LOL

I have downloaded it but I dread opening the program! lol categorizing is going to take forever I think and I don't know if I can do it!

If you are going to tag all the kits, yes.......it's going to take a while but it is well worth it. I do have to admit, I do not tag my collection....I use it to find a certain kit or theme/color and that is enough for me. It also prevents me from buying a kit for a second time (which I have done plenty in the past before stores reminded me I'd already purchased a certain item in my cart).

Yes I can see that being really helpful.

So what categories do you give each of your kits? just theme and color?

My husband is a software developer and he developed a program especially for me called digiscrap catalog. I love how it works and it makes it really easy to find that one certain kit or themed kit with the search option :) The program is free and you can get it through the fb group I linked to :) Hope that's alright.

here's a screenshot of the program.....

I have to say THANK YOU!!! I have just downloaded this over the weekend and have spent the last couple of days cleaning up my stash. I already had everything sorted by theme...ie Christmas, Winter, halloween, disney, travel, outdoors, games etc BUT I started using the tags in this and DELETING kits! Oh my goodness! I have freed up over 100 GB of storage on my computer and deleted over 100 kits/freebies. When I started 8 or 9 years ago I was on every CT I could find and grabbed every freebie I could get and oh my goodness there were some doozies in my stash. I am still not done but I am excited about being able to find stuff now. I can now search for a topic like dinosaurs or camping and pull all kits that match that or search sweet shoppe and pull all my kits or a designer etc. Thank you for this resource. It is so easy to use. My OCD is so excited.:wub:

Wow - Biancka! I'll have to check that out - I used to be great at knowing what i have, but the info is getting pushed out of my memory with other things.

I typically organize by categories as I'm mainly a theme scrapper. My templates are way more organized as they are grouped by number of photos on the template or if it's a theme like "Christmas." I usually end up searching my computer for "umbrella" and see what kit pops up with an umbrella in it... :) It works great until I need a "car" and hundreds of results come back with journaling cards. haha

this is exactly what I do!

Ooooh, you are too kind and you are so welcome !! I am still loving the program too. Husband is working on a new version (something to do with the platform it runs on...I don't know. LOL) and once I have tested & approved it...I'll be uploading it the Facebook group for sure :) I am just thrilled that other scrappers from the program as usefull as I do.

My system is super similar.

I have a Themes folder and Basics folder, then within the themes are kits and templates, word art, etc. for each each.

Basics holds everything non-themed. Templates folder has subfolders for double, single, and pocket, then within double and single, they're sorted by number of photos. I also have folders in Basics for alphas, generic elements like buttons, flowers, ribbons, etc., papers, text paths, etc.

I'm definitely going to check out the software posted, though. I'm an organization nerd, lol.

I have a big scrap folder. Inside there are subcategories for Templates and then kits by theme. I have Christmas kits, Life - Mundane, Life - Positive, Life - Sad/Grieving, Childhood, Family, Home, other holidays, etc. Each kit is sorted by theme. Inside that theme each kit has a folder. SSD kits are marked with a '~' symbol at the beginning to bring them to the top of my kits. Since I really only do challenges here, it is easier to find them that way.

In my templates folder, the themed ones are pulled into separate subfolders. The rest have a number in front of them based on the number of photo slots available. If I have 4 photos I want to scrap, I scroll down to the 4's and look for the template that catches my eye.

I will check out the software! I like the system I used (I am pretty sure Traci Reed posted about something similar) but am always open to changes.
