Getting my next (new) tattoo

I've decided I'm finally getting my next tattoo this summer, might even get two. I have been wanting to get another ever since I had my first one back in 2007. Then when my cat died 2 years ago, I got the paw print on paper and want to get this or something else to symbolise my fur baby. The one I'm definently getting now though is my kids' names and a heart. Just really simple and with some scripty font. The heart in between will be one I drew as part of my font I had made by DJB. I just wish I was better at writing.

I think both are good. Have you picked a tattoo artist? If you show them these two options, he/she may be able to come up with something you like even better!

I love that! Where do you plan to put it?

I have 7, but it's been a long time since I got one. I donate plasma so I can't, but next spring I am going to get a couple.

I can't speak from experience as I don't have any tattoos, however I love the font on the first one and love how you joined your children together with the heart!

I am like Wendy here and am too liking the first font better than the second :)

Fun! I love tattoos! I have quite a few! I just finished my flowers on my shoulder- they are the birth month flowers of my kiddos & the hummingbird is for my nanny (grandma) who passed away a few years ago. I love the idea of the paw print! Where are you planning to put the names? I work with a girl who had her dad's handwriting (it says: love ya- dad) along the inside of her forearm & it's beautiful!

I too like the first font and think it will make a beautiful tattoo. I have 5, 2 of which are dragonflies.

Dragonfly 1 is on my left shoulder with the tail curving into a pink ribbon to celebrate my first year cancerversary, dragonfly 2 is just a black on the top of my right foot to celebrate cancerversary 5, so I am past due for my 10 year dragonfly :). I will have then completed my cycle.

These are both beautiful. But if I had to choose, I'd choose the first one.

I don't have any tattoos, but have been talking to my oldest son about getting one. He has been suicidal for quite a while and is on medication now. He & I talked about getting semi-colon tattoos - probably on our wrists. I'm a little scared. This is the one I think I might get:

i think it's a wonderful idea! I like them both so I'm no help. I thought I read somewhere that handwriting tattoos can blur though as skin ages? I guess it doesn't matter if you get 40 great years out of it, lol, but just thought I'd ask.

I have decided on the first font, just tweaking the end N a bit so it looks less like an H. I have an appointment scheduled for Monday so wish me luck. It's going to be super painful and it's a long time since I had my first so I'm probably not going to like it much.

All tattoos will eventually blur a bit, but I don't really mind as long as it's still readable.

craftytam that's a great idea, I can't see the picture you shared, but I've seen lots of those tattoos and they are small, yet powerful.

lovelym1 I'm getting it on my left torso, right under where the brah (?) goes.

I got word tattooed on me 20 years ago. They are not blurred. You're fine. Good luck! I plan to get a couple new ones next year.

I love this. I have a tattoo that wraps around my ankle. There are three infinity symbols and each one has the name of one of my kids - it's done very similar to the way it is in your heart.

Tammy that tattoo would be beautiful. I appreciate that you are sharing your experience here because many people would not. I have anxiety and so does my 11 yo son. I worry that his challenges will grow as he does.

Thanks, Beckie!
I grew up in a home that never talked about anything (like at all!).
We lost my brother to suicide 4 years ago on July 18th. He was 42. He suffered from depression and it was a "last straw" moment. I've dealt with depression & anxiety all my life. My son has as well. I refuse to lose my son.
I hope that you're able to get good therapy, and if necessary, medication for your son. And, keep the lines of communication open. I'm definitely no expert (and a huge work-in-progress, but if you ever need a shoulder, I'm here).

That'll be beautiful! You'll def need to come back here & post your final pics! It is painful- but I read a book while mine was done & it was a good distraction- some pages I had to reead a few times but it worked! ;)

I had them done yesterday and the tattoo artist had just gotten a new tattoo gun so he was super careful to do everything right. Honestly it almost didn't hurt at all. Could have been the new super gun or I was just lucky. Anyway I'm super happy with how it turned out.
