How much would you offer to pay for school transportation?

So, long time no talkie, but... I'm moving to Colorado to be with my family and new boyfriend. Obviously a complicated decision and situation, but that's the short of it.

SO, the weeks when Eden is here she needs a ride to and from school. I know who I want to ask but I don't know how much to offer to pay her and I don't want to put her on the spot by asking her what she thinks is a fair price. Is $50 a week too much? It's pick up and drop off, usually 4 days a week.

Whoa...that's a big change!

How far do you guys live from her school? Will the person taking her to/from school be going out of their way to do so, or do you live near them already?

Well, we're kinda on the way, probably take an extra 10 minutes and she already takes someone else's kid.

And it is a big change but one that I've been planning on doing for a LONG time. I just bumped up my time line a little.

I'm literally the worst when it comes to knowing what to do in these situations, but...I will say if you wanted to be really technical about it, the IRS mileage rate for business miles reimbursement is $.54 per mile (I only know this because of my job). So, you could use that as a baseline to calculate whether $50 per week seems fair.

Good luck with the move and your new relationship!

I think $50 is a little high. I'd probably offer $25 a week. Right now (at least where I'm at) that would cover around 11 gallons of gas. I think that's fair compensation for her time and effort. :)

How long will she be doing this? How old is Eden again? Will there be days she needs extra driving? I'd go by the mileage rate plus a few bucks for her time at least. Is Eden going to two different schools or just being transported to the same school from different locations?

Thanks for the input! She decided she can really only do the afternoon drop off, so I'm offering her $25
