What to see in North Carolina?

So - next week, my parents, hubby, kiddo and I are flying to Raleigh North Carolina for a few days... it is my birthday next week and I'm turning the big 4-0. I didn't want a party... so decided on a trip... we only picked this location because hubby found super cheap flights - haha... so, any ideas on where to go/what to see?

Thanks!

I have spent a lot of time in Durham/Chapel Hill - I had a lot of family, including my sister, who lived there for a few years. I think it's pretty close to Raleigh. The Duke University campus/Duke Gardens/Duke Chapel are BEAUTIFUL and worth a visit I think.

I will ask her if she has any other suggestions (or her friend who still lives in that area). :)

Oh! And if you have time or want to go the other way, Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach is like 2 hours from there and is lovely as well.

We lived in Fayetteville NC for a couple of years (many years ago) and I can tell you there isn't a lot to see around there unless you are into military museums. We used to drive down to Wilmington for weekend trips a lot. Raleigh has a nice zoo we used to go visit. Enjoy your time away, sometimes its nice just to get away and hang out at the hotel pool!!

If I were already going to Wilmington, I'd check out places they filmed One Tree Hill. I wouldn't make a special trip to do it, but if I was there....
:)

OH how I would LOVE to do this and I also would recommend it if you are going to be in the Wilmington area! One Tree Hill was and is pretty great!

Cool!! I didn't know that was where One Tree Hill was filmed - I binged watched a few seasons last year... :D

Thanks!

Yes! I did that a few years ago, and it was so much fun! It's also the same studio where they filmed Dawson's Creek. Needless to say, my child of the 90's heart was so happy.

Gah, it's SO good! Especially the earlier seasons! I was bummed they wouldn't let us take pics of the set during the tour, but I totally touched Nathan and Haley's bed! Lol
