Working with alpha sheets in PS

I'm new to PS so please bear with me as I'm learning all the tricks...

What is the workflow for alpha sheets? How do I "cut" individual letters from the sheet and place them on the layout?

I usually take the magic wand tool and set it to 255 and then click the letter and copy and paste. Or you can use the rectangular marquee tool, which is right above the wand tool. Draw a box around the letter, copy and paste.

I put the entire sheet on my layout, use the marquee tool to drag out a selection around the letter that I want to cut out, and press Ctrl/Cmd J to paste it to a new layer. I do that with each letter that I want and then just hide the layer that has the full alpha in case I want to go back to it later.

Monia, I don't know if you saw my post in your other thread, but I highly recommend perusing the tutorials section. They all have screen shots and are super helpful.

Thank you for the links. They are very helpful. I feel like I need to re-learn everything. PS is different from PSE, that's for sure.
