Organizing Layouts

I'm pretty sure I saw it here somewhere that some of you organize your layouts based on dates of photos/events. So I started doing that with mine, but I have a problem with a few. Where do y'all stick ones that have multiple dates. Like I have a layout about my hubby as a dad, and it has an early photos of him with each kid. So different dates, and the journaling is generic - not date specific either. And other layouts that are completely random that they don't have any kind of date.

So how do you personally organize those "problem" layouts?
 
I don't organize my layouts by date but I like Traci's suggestion of dating it with the day you wrote it since the journaling is probably somewhat tied to your perspective on that date.
 
LOL, I go by the first year/date the spread starts--although, now that y'all mention it, it does seem like a good idea to include it in the year you put the layout together!

Right now I tend to put undatable pages in a "Album Memories" folder--family history, stuff that doesn't have anything to do directly with me or my immediate family.
 
I date mine like

May 1st, 2012, would be in a folder named 2012, then I'd have each month, then my pages are numbered with the day 1st, Month second, # of page next. So 1May1, would be May 1st, page 1. and if I do 10 pages from that day, 1May10, etc.
 
I do what Traci does or I just label it with a year "2012BestDadEver"...somethign like that.....I also label my layouts like this 08_24_2012MomsBirthday....that way they are always in date order and easy to find :)
 
I usually make a notation on my layout as to the date the journaling was written if there are pictures from different years. Then I file them away depending on where I might want them in an album. I have some odd ball AAM pages that don't have specific dates or anything and I label them as 00-00-00AAMpagedescription LOL

Yep - it's these type of pages that I'm also struggling with (besides the ones with photos from different times). A layout about my purse, lol - A layout with a poem I wrote years ago. I have ideas for dates on those, but they would look really odd (I think) in the middle of pages about my kiddos, lol. I might just stick those random ones in a separate album, lol.
 
I date my layout by photo date. e.g 12-06-30-Day at the Zoo. If there are multiple dates on the same page, I go by the most recent photo date.

I don't date by when I created the layout, because I don't always scrap chronologically. One day I'll scrap a photo of my 5 yr old as she is today, then the next day I'll scrap a 'suddenly found' photo of her as a toddler. If I date by year-month-day-title, then all the layouts end up more or less chronological in the folder when I'm done, and uploading to photobook sites is easy. Does that make sense?

I've resigned myself to the fact however, that my AAM album is going to be all over the place, and I'm OK with that. I figure, as long as the memory is documented, it doesn't really matter what order it is in. These layouts I'll often date the day I created them, with a notation on the layout "Journalled on...(date)..."

Thank Jacinda - that's exactly how I'm doing it. I'm OCD about certain stuff, and the AAM type layouts are still making me cringe, lol - but I'll get over it eventually :)

Thanks again everyone for all your input - I'm glad to know I'm not wasting my time with all my reorganizing! I would hate to have to redo it later :)
 
I only date mine with the date I journaled it IF it has photos from different dates and the story doesn't combine the dates of all the photos, KWIM? Like "Our Summer Vacation" would probably have the date of the end of the summer vacay. BUT if it was a layout about multiple summer vacations, then it would have the date of the journaling...

This is exactly what I do :thumbup: Makes it so much easier when uploading to do my yearly book.
 
i print my layouts and put them in threeing albums (we r memory keepers). on my computer, i title my layouts with the month/year and title of the page, because i usually print once a month or once a quarter, and it makes it easy for me to figure out which pages need to be printed when i title like that. in my albums, i have everything related to the kids/family in chronological albums based on what makes sense with the journaling. i have a separate album for AAM pages and another for family history pages.
