Blah. Organizing Scrap Supplies

I've been pretty good about keeping up to date with importing my purchases into Lightroom before I buy new supplies. However, my downloads folder keeps getting filled up with freebies and I still have a few things in there from my last big purge that I haven't decided if I want to keep or not. I've been much better about not downloading tons of freebies, but I still DL a few and don't usually import them for a while.

My new MacBook Pro should be here on Monday (YAY!!!) and I'm trying to empty out my downloads folder so that I can transfer fully organized supplies over to my new computer and don't move stuff over that I know I don't want. Ugh.

Besides the scrap stuff, I have programs I've download and e-books and other things that I also have to go through. I keep telling myself that I'll be happy when I get it done, but getting there is no fun!!

I've been on an organizing spree lately, too. I tell myself, even if it's pretty, if I haven't used it in X amount of time, or have had it for so long and haven't used it, it can be pitched.

As far as e-books, if you've purchased them, won't they always be available for dl? Can you move them off and dl as needed?

Many of the e-books that I have are PDF downloads and (1) either they're only available to DL for a certain amount of time or (2) I'm afraid that I'll forget I bought them or not be able to find where to DL them again. It's just easier to have them well-organized on my hard drive.

I keep thinking that I need to go through and do another big purge, but then I use a kit that I bought 2 years ago and hadn't used yet. So, if I still like it, I keep it.

I hate organizing! But having it done makes such a big difference. I have a good system in place but was very lazy about spending the time to organize last year. Earlier this summer I spent a week organizing, and I love the results. I've been using all my unused kits now that I know exactly which ones those are. :) But it certainly makes me more careful with my purchases and DLs, knowing I have to spend time organizing it after I buy.

I REALLY need to do this! My scrap supplies folder is a mess. What is the best program to use for organizing, tagging, etc so that if I'm looking for, say, a red button, I can type that in and up pops all the red buttons I have? I know I'll be happier when it's all done, but darn it if it's not a pain in the kiester!

I use Adobe Lightroom for both my photos and scrap supplies. Of all the programs I've looked at, it's the one that works the way I think :). Also, my scrap stash is so big that other programs were bogging down with all the files.

I use Bridge. I usually keep my stash veryyyyy organized, but I've been abit lazy the past two months or so... oooops! Need to get on that...

Wow that definitely sounds like a lot of work! But I"m sure you WILL feel better when its done.

Mine is a total mess. I have started organizing 3 times over the last 4 years and then don't finish and i think i have just made a bigger mess. :( I started organizing again yesterday. I know I would be so much happier if I could find things when I want them.
