I love reading but never do it anymore. Part of it is because of my iPhone, since I got that thing reading, surfing, playing etc with it takes up any spare minutes I have. When I have larger chunks I always scrapbook.

So how do you fit in both?

Erin

For me it's just a must for me - if I don't have reading time I get grumpy :p I read in bed before I fall asleep every night. I scrap on my days off and sometimes in the evening on the days I work. I stay away from things that suck me in and take up my time ;)

Audiobooks and Kindle Text to Speech. Otherwise I could never fit in both. My library lends audiobooks through their Overdrive site (files to download) and has some on CD that I can rip and put on my player or phone. I almost always listen to a book while I scrap.

Kindle for iPhone!!!

I have to walk away from the computer to read otherwise I wind up staying up way too late scrapbooking or reading facebook or pinterest.

I read every night before bed for at least 30 minutes. I've also started taking the bus to work the last few weeks so I don't have to pay $13/day for parking ... so I read then too (only about 20 minutes each way).

I scrapbook mostly on my days off, occasionally in the eveings. I read before bed each night. I also have an unusual job, I can read and watch movies at work. Makes it a bit easier to fit those things in.

I read after kids are in bed or during nap time. That is if I don't have a CT layout that needs to be done. I really have to fit it in when I can or I can get to be a big ol' grouch. It isn't pretty. Sometimes I get 15 minutes to read during those designated times. Other days I can get an hour. Just depends on the day and what is on the to do list.

I fit in a lot more reading time during the summer because I get at least 2 weeks of opportunity when we are on our family vacation (I can usually finish 2-3 books on vacation). But normally I read right before bed. Sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes... it depends on how sleepy I am! I used to be able to read a book in a week, sometimes a day or two! Now it takes me 3 months to finish a book. :p

Those of you who read for a little while before bed are much more disciplined than I am. I was never a before-bed reader because I'd tell myself I was going to read "just a chapter" and the next thing I knew it was 4 am and the book was finished.

Exactly, scrapping keeps me up late enough. I get hooked into a book and its really hard to put ut down to go back to work.

I don't really have much of a schedule in the summer. I just try to fit it in where I can. I work mornings and evenings and fit it all kid activities/chores/etc in throughout the day. Mostly I read late at night- I could never stay up too late I'm just too much of a sleepyhead!

It cycles around in waves for me. Sometimes I do far more scrapping, sometimes I do more reading, but mostly what I do depends on time of day. I listen to audiobooks in the car & while working out in the morning and also while crocheting. I read in the evenings and late afternoons. I scrap in the early afternoon after lunch. Sometimes I start scrapping earlier & go later depending one what I am doing but I am off the computer by 8pm every night & read after that until I go to bed. I set an alarm on my phone so I stop reading in bed at 11:30pm.

I read during ball practice & I sometimes read during games. I read while the kids are in the pool and at the park (they are 8 & 9). I read while waiting for people & appointments & in the checkout line. I read in the bathroom. I read during breakfast & lunch unless there are other people at the table. When my husband isn't home sometimes the boys and I all read during dinner. I've been known to listen to audiobooks in the shower but my speakers don't like the steam. I sometimes listen to audiobooks while cooking & cleaning as well

I love reading as much as I love scrapping, but it's so hard to do both with such less free time :(

I think the reason why I still read is that a) I don't have a smartphone and b) I don't have a car. Meaning that whenever I'm waiting for the bus, riding on the bus, waiting in a line etc., I'm reading. I also tend to read about 30 minutes before sleep, because I find that I fall asleep better that way (computer makes me insomniac, books somehow soothe me). But I don't have kids, which means that whenever I'm waiting for the bus etc. I'm alone and don't have to oversee a bunch of little ones.

I read early in the morning before getting going for the day... and while kiddo is at swimming lessons or other things that I have to wait for him... :)

i bring my book with me wherever i go. i read at lunch at work, i read while waiting for the kids, and i read at least 30 minutes before bed. i manage to read one or two books a week - nothing earth shattering, but i've been a reader my whole life i think i'd go mad without it.

Glad to hear the waiting part is still there when kids are around. So there is hope I can read even if I have children. :-)

I read at night in bed, these days I'm lucky if I get 4-5 pages read before I nod off. Mason's so big now I can't really nurse comfortably in my desk chair anymore, so I read while I'm nursing him. Oh, and I read a lot on Tuesdays and Thursdays during my class' nap time.

I read before bed and I read in the bathroom, as it is the one place I really get any peace and quiet. TMI? I also read on Saturday mornings for at least a half hour. That is my weekend me time. :)

I don't get to read a lot during the summer, but during the school year, I read while I'm waiting to pick up my son from school. Sometimes I leave early, so I can have extra time to read. LOL

yep this is me, but I read before bed anyway!! Sometimes I have to MAKE myelf put the bookmark in and turn the light off...it's hard:D

I do both, but I seem to go in cycles... for example, two weeks ago I read like 4 books in a week. But, that's really unusual. Then, the next two weeks, I scrapped like crazy (by my standards, anyway). In what I would consider a "normal" week, I do some of both, but not necessarily each day.

I generally read before bed, like many others have said. During the school year, I normally read at lunch while the kiddos are at school. I definitely stay up too late reading when I've really got a good book going.

During the summer, with all 5 of my kids home I don't get much time during the day to scrap or read, but I can usually fit an hour in during late morning when everyone is enjoying a snack. During the school year it's a bit easier to squeak a little more time for scrapping since I only have one kid at home...although he has given up his nap so it might be a little harder this fall!!! :D :D

But.....I'm really lucky and all my kids are in bed by 8PM and then I have a few hours to my self to spend time with hubby and do some of my own things!! So I can scrap at night and read at night too!!!

Ditto and Ditto!!! :D :D

I don't read as much as I'd like to anymore, but still manage to squeeze in some reading time. I usually read in the car (not while I'm driving :D), while waiting for H to finish dance class, or if I arrive early to pick her up from school. I have to stay while she's at swimming too, so I read while I wait. I probably manage some reading time 3-4 days a week, but scrap almost every day!

Oh my, $13/day for parking!!! WOW!!! Yikes!

Ummm...I don't read anymore. I just scrap. :w00t:

I read in bed before I go to sleep, and at bathtime, sitting on the bathroom counter while my girls play in the tub! LOL

Since I was like 8 years old I have always ALWAYS had a book within reach most of the day lol. Now of course it's my Kindle, or my iPad or my iPhone..since one of those is always with me I pretty much read all day whenever I can squeeze it in. I scrap in the mornings.

Yeah, the parking rates in downtown Seattle are all between $13-18 / day in the business district (assuming you get the early bird special, otherwise they are $27-30). The monthly parking rate in my building is $326, so I park across the street in a different building which is still $260 per month. Even the bus is $5 round trip. My employer no longer subsidizes commuting (they stopped before I was hired). It is nice to have some reading time on the bus, but I will say that is the only thing I like about the bus, lol.

I'm a secretary and I read at work when nothing is going on. My husband isn't a big reader and he gets jealous if I read to much and "ignore him." lol.
