bad place for this store

We have Sports Authority down here in Florida. Apparently in other areas of the country you have Dick's Sports? Now ok I get that is the name but um should it be built right next to a toys r us/babies r us???
 
Honestly, I wouldn't think twice about something like that. My mind doesn't work that way. I had to stop and try to figure out what you were referring to. LOL I don't use that word to describe male anatomy.

yea I dont like the word either. Dont like saying it. But thought kids learning to read seeing the sign right next to a toy store might make for awkward moments.
 
LOL we have those here and I've always thought it was an odd choice for a brand. Then again I have an uncle who goes by that and I've always thought that was weird too, haha.
 
Yeah I think they're in the middle of the country more. I first saw it in Colorado but we have one here in Texas too. It's actually a really nice store - kind of REI-ish, some have rock walls inside and stuff. I've just always thought it was a bit of an unfortunate name choice, haha.
 
Yea Brooke they are building one in Waterford Lakes (if you are at all familiar with the Orlando area). It is on Alafaya Trail/434
 
We have them here, they do a lot of sponsoring for our little league

That sounds interesting...we have one opening up just a few miles away from us, and I figured it would be another Academy-type place. Now I'm actually sort of looking forward to seeing what it's like :)
 
We have both of those stores here. Also, my favorite local grocery store is Dick's Market. Yeah.
 
There are a lot of Dick's near the toy stores near here. LOL LOL LOL
In Albany, NY (where we travel to shop) they are everywhere for real though.
 
The name doesn't bother me - just a person :)

One of my Dad's best friend's is name Dick - and I was told growing up to call him Dickie-Poo...still do sometimes when I see him! LOL
 
We have SA and Dicks, when I first went in with my son who was 6 then said mom can I say the name of the store? I said ummm yeah it's the store name trying not to make a big deal but now Cely my dd 8 is like were going through Dicks and i'm like ughhhhh NO, WHY??
Annoyed about it now I know the double standard :|

Yeah, no, it's much nicer than Academy.
 
LOL - we are frequent shoppers at Dick's since Cheyanne is such an athlete. I don't think anything of it since I have an Uncle Dick (short for Richard) and we use the word as a name all the time :p

Dr. Dick Chopp. HAHAHAHAHAHA! I mean seriously, with a name like that he HAD to go into urologist and do vasectomies!

The name Dick (from Richard) is a very old name and because I knew so many of them all in my younger life I never thought of it as off. I even went to school with a Sandy Coxs and Rod Dickie (called him lil' dickie he was the youngest of 12 LOL) We have SA and Dicks here, I love Dicks best for camping gear. Children are hearing the word "dick" way too young then when I was a kid.
 
We have them here too...right next to our Babies R Us/Toys R Us....the first time I saw it I was like "ooohh okaayy." I can see the awkardness with kids and wanting to read all of the signage.

Amber: That doc definitely has the right name for the job. He may scare away his patients though...lol!!

That's so funny Amber! We had a urologist that did both of our boys' circumcisions, and his name was Dr. Dickstein. When our pediatrician referred us to him, as she handed us his card, she said, "He has an unfortunate name, but he does beautiful circumcisions." Pretty wonderful recommendation, right? LOL.
 
To me it is just a name. I have an uncle and a couple of cousins (uncle's kid and grandkid) named Richard and, from time to time, they get called Rick or Dick. I have a friend that went by Dick too. No biggie, its just a name.

There would be no awkwardness if people would call genitalia by the proper terms. Truthfully that is one HUGE pet peeve with me. It is a penis. Call it that. Call it nothing else.

Anyway, we have a really nice Academy in Joplin. It was destroyed in the tornado last year and I was so happy when they reopened! We love that store. :)
 
*WE* can say it's just a name. But it has become more than that in our culture. I'd probably change my name if I had one unfortunate as some of the examples in this thread. I've been hanging out with young men for a while now (gaming), and there's noooooo way any of them are mature enough to let that slide (omg pun...). I'm pretty sure my own kids definitely don't see it as just a name.
 
Yeah, I don't think it's an issue at all. Maybe a few adolescents think it's funny, but I can't imagine it extends past that. Almost any name can be rhymed or made into something funny, lol.

Best name ever! When I was in elementary school, our principals name was Mr. Hurt. We were pretty sure it was because he could give good spankings when kids were bad. lol.
