Photoshop help - paper placement

I'm using PSCS5 and didn't notice this happening until recently, so I don't know what changed.

When I drag a 3600x3600 px paper onto the 3600x3600 px canvas, my paper gets placed on the canvas with it's center at 1803,1803 px. So it's off just a tiny bit. It's not terribly difficult to center it, but I'd rather not spend the 5 seconds or so every time I place a paper if I don't have to. Does anyone know how to fix this?
 
I just recorded an action to move it, which saves a few mouse clicks, but I'd rather have it center correctly without having to do anything.
 
Kate, my papers are doing that also in CS5. They are being placed a tiny bit away from the edge at the top and left hand side. So, every time I place a paper I have to tap it over with the arrow key... one click up and one click over. Wish I didn't have to waste my time doing this!!
 
Brook, when I try to move it with the arrow keys, it moves too far the other direction :(

ETA: It seems like my arrow keys are set to move 5px a click.
 
If I drag from the layers palette and drag it to my new LO all is good but if I drag the actual paper over on to to a new LO it is always offcenter a little bit.

Out of habit now I just hit shift/alt when I drag a paper and it automatically centers it for me!!
 
Kim, I'm feeling a bit dense. Do you click 'shift' and 'alt' when dragging a paper from windows explorer or from the layers palette? When I click 'shift' and drag from the layers palette, it does center correctly. However, that's even more effort than centering the paper after dragging it from windows. I tried clicking 'shift' and 'alt' at the same time when dragging the paper from windows explorer and it was still off center.
 
Kate, I'm not on CS5, but I scrap with Windows Explorer open too. I click and drag my paper to open in PS (which is probably an extra step?) but from that open file I click and drag the paper and then press SHIFT so it automatically centers on the canvas.

Lex,

I could do that, and it would work. But when I do it that way, the paper is named the general "layer 1", etc. in the layers palette. When I drag the paper to my workspace directly, the layer is named with the filename. I'd rather have to center the paper than rename the layer.

If I shift+drag from another tab in PS it will center just fine, however if I shift+drag from windows explorer (which I prefer because it preserves the file name as the layer name), it's off just a bit. It's a mystery...
 
That happens here as well. It's just a teeny bit but if I forget to adjust it, you see a real fine white border at the edges. Bugs me too!
 
I use PCS5 and mine does the same thing I have to hit the left arrow button (once). Its been doing this for the last few months, it has become routine to hit the arrow key once. (but still annoying) Sometimes it won't even needs to be moved over.

oops I missed the windows explorer bit..I'm on a mac so I don't use that :) I just open from bridge
 
I open everything in PS and just rename each layer, somebody should do a tutorial on how to use Windows Explorer for opening and draggin your files in CS5 :)
 
Yeah, I'm opening my papers by dragging them in from Window Explorer, too. It's super annoying, but like Hailey said it's become routine to tap it over.
 
Angie, all you do is open the kit folder in windows, then drag+drop the papers/elements onto the canvas. There might be a preference that has to be set, but if there is mine was set correctly to do it. Also, after all the talk about mini-bridge a few weeks ago I gave it a try and I definitely like using it. I go back and forth now between MB and windows explorer.
 
I posted this question in the Adobe forum and got a solution that works a bit better than moving it after it's on the canvas. If you select>all (ctrl-a on the PC) and then drag the paper/element onto the canvas, it will center correctly. At least it is for me. Still one more step than I'd like, but it's easier than what I had been doing.
