Why must my boys have mystery illnesses?

Some of you might remember my oldest son and his stomach issues. While nothing has been found after all the tests he has had, nothing has been resolved either. It's still a mystery!

Now, one of my twins has had a fever since Thursday night (which would break when he took Tylenol). Last night he developed a rash so I took him to the doctor today. Two doctors looked at him, and it's a mystery! They have no idea what is wrong with him. I had to take him for blood work - first time he's had blood taken - and they put a rush on it. He can't go to school again tomorrow and has to go back to the doctor if the rash changes. In any case, we have to go back to the doctor on Wednesday.

My boys are all usually so healthy so this kind of stuff really rocks our lives. Any prayers you can throw our way would be much appreciated!
 
What kind of rash is it? One of my kids had fifth disease. I had never heard of it but it causes fever & rash.

I also hope you can figure out what is going on with your older son. For my husband it has taken two years!! Granted part of that is because his body did not tolerate the prep for the colonoscopy and then he had a car accident. After the accident his doctor wanted to give him time to heal with the broken ribs and because he kept refracturing them he was not healing very quickly. So we may have had the diagnosis we got this week months ago if they had been able to test him then.

Thanks girls - I just got off the phone with Kent's doctor - she thinks he has valley fever and walking pneumonia. There is no treatment for VF - it has to run it's course. Tomorrow he goes in for a chest xay to see where we are with both.

They have a big standardized test this week at school that they have to get 100% participation in. He will miss it all. Hoping he can do the make-up test at some point.
 
My husband was just recently diagnosed with VF. There is a treatment for it, it's in pill form. The most severe cases are given their medication via IV in the hospital. Our doctor said that often times most VF patients recover just fine without any treatment needed, so they often let it run it's course for abit and see if there is improvement before they prescribe meds. My husband has been down with his for over a month now, and missed a couple weeks of work due to it... finally, he's back on his feet now but still not 100%.

I hope your boy recovers quickly! Poor kid!
 
Valley Fever is such a weird sickness! -- I often wonder if any of us has had it since sometimes it just looks like a cold (or nothing at all) and sometimes it can be worse. I thought there were treatments for it too but hopefully your son will just recover on his own.

Lara - sorry to hear about your husband! Yes, I'm hoping we can just let it run the course without medication. The dr. says it's going to get worse before it gets better. :(

Dawn - I was reading up on VF last night and supposedly 1 in 33 get it in our area of the country. And yes, some people get it without even knowing because it's such a mild case of it and we just think it's the flu. You can only get it once in your life.

I'm trying to stay positive that Kent's will be a mild case! Some of my IRL friends are kind of scaring me though. :unsure:
 
From what I understand from our doctor is that it can like go into remission (for lack of better wording, on my part) and it can out of the blue come back again later on. At the rate my husbands is going he'll never be 'over it' for it to even 'come back' it seems like it's just never going to go AWAY!

Speaking of, my husband is at the hospital right now doing chest xays again because they think his is no longer getting better. He was doing pretty decently this past week, and now he woke up coughing and feeling heavy in the right lung again. I have a feeling he's going to end up on IV in the hospital, but we'll see. I sure hope not. He's exhausted from battling this.

I live in the high desert, so we see this alot here as well, apparently... so they tell me. LOL!

Oh gosh Lara - I hope they can get it under control for your husband! Yeah, pretty much everyone I know, knows someone who has had VF.

So, chest xay results show no pneumonia, no on mono and first VF test was negative also. We are waiting on more test results and will test again for VF if he doesn't get better.

Like I said...it's a mystery! :p
 
Best of luck to you and your family, Mary. I'm taking my middle son to the doctor tomorrow for stomach issues.... we're just beginning, so I can only imagine how frustrating it must be not to have any answers with as long as your son has been dealing with it!
