There is nothing quite like..

getting FIRST IN LINE for a book you're wanting to read. I have my habits set pretty well in the libby app to notify me if a new book is added. Some libraries have the ability to automatically add you to the waitlist if you want notified but our library stopped doing that.

Out Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune comes out in May and I was able to get 1st in line with the audiobook at my library.. I'm excited for this one as it's set in Tofino!

ALSO one other cool thing about this new forum - did you know that if you decide to not post or if you are the type of person who types things out.. regrets it.. then is like "hey maybe that was ok to post" your temporary posts are actually saved? I wrote this last night, felt like an idiot and didn't post. Then thought about posting again and my post was still here waiting for me :P

Congrats on being first! You are number one in a lot of peoples' books around here.
I did notice that feature about saving your response. I frequently type stuff, then I think "no one cares" and I closes the thread. I was surprised when my words came back to haunt me. 😆

lol!! <3 <3

the feature can be good or bad..yes LOL!! I care! <3 <3

There are already 24 other people behind me so the waitlist would now be 6+ months for the book :)

I think it only saves drafts for 24 hours (and I can turn it off I think) if you guys would prefer ♥️

Similar thing happened for me this week. I'm the first hold for the children's book, Put Your Records On by Corrine Bailey Rae. I'm not sure when the book is actually going to be available in our library system but I was excited to see that I have the first hold.

I love the Libby app! I also love that it returns the books for me when they are due. No more overdue fines!

Congratulations on being first! I like it when I get the book I was waiting for, on the release day. But also I get excited when I go to 2nd and Charles two to three days before the book is released and they have it on their secret bottom shelf, hehe 😊😊

Haven't had that luck with audiobooks, but love it when I am first for a physical book from the library. No mysterious stains, unbent pages and that new book smell. I need to do better at learning when new books/audiobooks come out.

I use the new release section on goodreads (I can't seem to access the section on mobile though?)

If you use goodreads it's pretty helpful

https://www.goodreads.com/new_releases/2026/3 you can view by month

I also will check the section that shows books being released each month by authors i've read

Also popular books being released in 2026

I use libby to notify me of books that are added so that i get a notification ding on my phone when the book has been added :)

Ooo, thats great. Thanks for that info. I have used the indigo website too for checking to see what is listed as a pre order. Doesn't show everything, but at least gives me an idea.

I was going to edit my post to say apologies if you didn't need to know any of this haha... I get a little excited about releases.. It's an issue LOL

That is an absolute treat to be first!

I have beef with the people who have gone in to Libby and requested a book before its publication and are in line ahead of me, a person who also requested a book before its publication, and then TAKE THE FULL TWO WEEKS TO READ THE NEWLY RELEASEED BOOK.

I think it's bad etiquette, and I'm so mad that I've been waiting FOUR WEEKS already and only 2 people have checked out the newest Hamish Macbeth book! I'm still third in line, and 18 people are behind me. If you love an author enough to request their book before it is released, you should read it as soon as you get it. Especially if it's just a six hour listen! If it's going to take you two weeks to get around to reading it, you should let someone else go ahead of you.

My husband is like, "Just buy the book on Kindle." No, Joel, that is not the point. I shouldn't have to wait this long to read the book for free. ; )

ETA: I hope I'm not describing anyone here. If it's a long book, I don't mind that it takes someone the full time, but a short book, one that you can listen to in a weekend, should not take two weeks to read.

Eh, you are probably describing me. Honestly, I don't keep track if it's a new release or not, so I'm not good at knowing if I'm 'hoarding' a new book. It's taken me awhile, but in my 40's, I stopped caring as much what people think, so no hard feelings here!

I don't do book reviews, and I don't usually have anyone to discuss a book with, especially a new release, so I am unaware of the time it's taking me to read a book, nor do I have a greater urgency to finish a new one - except by the due date! So, yep. if I have 2 weeks, I'm likely taking the whole 2 weeks because I'm finishing another book, running around in my car on short errands (hard for me to listen with kids in and out telling me about their days), or at basketball games, now volleyball games. And I'm not a public audio book listener. Reader? Yep. I'll read between periods, during timeouts, etc. But books require active listening for me, and that requires home, garden, or longer car rides. And in case your next thought is: so why request the audio book instead of the reading book? Because often in my area the audio book line is 25-50% shorter! 😆

Well, I only listen to audiobooks while I walk the dog and since he's 15 years old, we are not on long walks anymore (although he takes his time now to sniff around...). That said, the total amount of time we walk is about an hour per day. That means that I only listen for 1 hour to an audiobook, so a 6 hours book will take me 6 days (sometimes a little less, sometimes a little longer).
I also can't start another book (reading nor listening) while I'm in a book already. So I would need to finish my book, before i can start another book.
So I understand it might be annoying, but you can't judge the other person's situation. Maybe the other one got the flu or had to work extra hours or is like me and just not a quick listener (I also can't stand it when the speed is faster than just the normal speed).
