Should I or should I not...

Well, I'm here all the time, I post off and on at DST, but not like I do here. I haven't ever subscribed, and won't probably, basically because the kits that you get with it aren't really impressing me so far.. and I'd rather spend the money here.. which is where most of my money goes anyways... LOL

Wow Shannon is da pimp? ROFL

I understand all of you ladies reasons for renewing and I think that's great!! When I made my big novel post, I was only stating my opinion as someone who is on the back end of the hosting deal and knows the numbers. The reason I won't renew is mainly because I don't ever use the kits and I hardly ever use the site. I only use the gallery when I'm uploading a CT LO. My main gallery is on my website. =))

obviously i am online WAY too much as I compulsively check here, DST and MSA (and my CT forums too).

Yep, I post there too but only for my CT's!!!! I think I have like 15 layouts over there and that is it !!!!! I am going to have to talk to you Shannon about the PIMPING thing....I am not so good at it, can you help me out a bit so I can PIMP my CT's designs!!!!!

I'm so with ya here Mimi! LOL! I check these places constantly throughout the day! I absolutely LOVE it here but I love it at DST too. There are so many different digi-scrap sites out there that I would never have the time to visit on a regular basis and I love to have DST because it is the place that brings ALL of them together into one community! If it wasn't for DST I wouldn't know about half the products, sales, digi-events out there! And I use it as my main gallery too.

For the gold membership kits, I haven't used them that much. I have caught myself grabbing pieces from several different kits now and then. , That doesn't mean I can say I will never use them. Heck, there are tons of kits that I bought that I haven't touched yet! LOL! And for $2.08 per kit it doesn't really matter if there are some throughout the year that I don't like.

I'm more than likely going to continue my membership there. I will probably be making a few sells on e-bay soon so I will use that money to pay for it! And all Micheline had to do was hint of a certain someone going to be the featured designer and I was sold even more! LOL!

I didn't renew when mine expired in January but seeing the list coming up I might renew.

I agree with the size of the kits... they aren't very big.

I absolutely love MSA also, it's my favorite non-store forum also, obviously here is my favorite store forum. But I do still like DST. I was able to get a diamond membership when I was relatively new to the scrapping community, and at that time, MSA did not exist. Of course, they opened about 2 months later LOL

This place is my home, this is the first store I bought a kit from last Spring, and definitely where I spend the bulk of my digi-dollars. I love it here, and I love how active we've become over the past few months!

i agree about MSA. i am rarely EVER at DST. i've got a gallery there, but it doesn't have a lot in it. i'm here and at MSA more often than not. DST has its perks. i like being able to browse through the new releases. even if i rarely buy anything from anywhere but here.

well, I think you SHOULD renew if you use DST as a resource to learn about sales, new products, what's going on in the community, etc. Shannon started DST because of a DEFINITE need in the community, and it serves its purpose, imo. She has a right to make a profit off of it, and I hope she makes a good profit for all the crap she takes. She does a good job of running the site and works really hard to keep things positive and clean. I support it, not because of the free kits, which I rarely use, but because I use the site and think it's a valuable resource.

But if you don't use DST, then I would't bother renewing.
This is exactly how I feel.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong for thinking otherwise, but if you use the site, you should really consider supporting it if you can afford it. I would not know a 1/10th of what I've discovered about the digiscrapping community if not for DST.

Bottom line to me is it provides an invaluable service for both scrappers and designers and really is a hub of the community. It brings everything together under one roof and does a pretty great job of it. The fact is communities like that are much more likely to stick around if they are financially sustained and worth all the effort being put into it. Why shouldn't Shannon make money at it? She works her tail off and is very dedicated to her community, whether you're a paying customer or not. So many people use it as their main gallery to showcase their work for potential CT positions, etc. You get to upload an unlimited amount of your work there. That's a pretty nice service.

I do think the site has its issues they need to work on, like their server issues with PhotoPost, etc. But I do believe Shannon would dearly like to sort those out and will work towards a solution. Despite those occasional frustrations, though, I think it's a very well run site and while I'm not hanging out there constantly, it is one of my most important resources as far as digiscrapping goes. I've wanted a membership for a while now, and I'm seriously considering a diamond membership while they're available. If I use anything from the kits it's a bonus, if I don't I'm still happy to have supported the site.

I hope that didn't offend or sound preachy. That wasn't my intention. People are giving their reasons for not contributing, which are certainly fair, and I just wanted to give my reasons why I want to contribute. :)
