RQOTD: House style

I'm almost positive I've asked this question before but we're going to do it again ;)

IF you could have ANY house style in any location what/where would it be?

I personally LOVE LOVE the southern style houses in the states. I would so love to have a house with a huge wrap around porch surrounded by trees and privacy *swoon*

The house would be an older character home with great moldings as well :)

*sigh*

We have been talking about moving... yeah, pretty sure won't find what I really want...

For me it would be a huge craftsman single level house with a very stately curb appeal... brick on the outside... inside there are built ins everywhere - all in that dark espresso or cherry wood color... hardwood floors and granite countertops, floor to ceiling windows... coffered ceiling in the master and living room... huge master bath and walk in closets... sun room and I also would love a wrap around porch.... and that all on a on a wooden culdesac... super close to main highway.... and in my budget... ;)

My taste has changed so many times I don't know what my dream house would be anymore. When the kids were growing up I wanted a big Victorian. Now that they are all out of the house I only want something smaller that's easy to clean.

yep. Southern style home with wrap around balconies on a big amount of property. I don't want to be close enough to see or hear my neighbors lol.

big yard. wrap around porch. tub.

these are my requirements.

currenlty i have a small yard, NO tub, and a weird enclosed back porch that feels like a green house. lol

Gosh, there are so many styles I love. Craftsmans (what we own), colonials, etc ... Most of the houses in Seattle were either built in the early 1900's or in the 1950's. I'm not a huge fan of tudors or mid-century homes, but I have seen some that are quite tasteful.

I love our current home, I just wish it were bigger and had more land. We have the built-ins and white trim, and because its 85 years old there are fun details and quirks too. A pantry would be wonderful, and useable closets (ours are really shallow and really long, but only have a single small door so most of the space isn't accessible). We will be doing some remodeling that'll help with our bedrooms (one "bedroom" is too small for a twin bed, so we want to make it more usable). But it's our first home and I love it and I'm afraid it'll be hard to find another home that is so effortlessly cute.

Any home that has a free maid and cook. :)

I love the traditional colonial look on the outside with a big porch and columns, but I want a modern inside with an open floor plan like we have now. I'm not a fan of boxy rooms and many older homes have those. But if I could build a custom house, it would be like that. :) On enough land to have more distant neighbors, yet close enough to town to be easy to get there. We are spoiled in having everything we need within a couple of miles.

As the boys leave home to start their own lives, I would truly like to downsize to something more cozy. As long as the boys live nearby where they don't have to stay overnight. If they end up far away, I will probably want to keep our big house for their visits with their families.

Craftsman style with a full, walkout basement. A heated in-ground pool and spa for Wes. I'd prefer the house be in the Northeast or Pacific Northwest of the States. It must have a lot of natural land surrounding it on all sides. I could compromise if it didn't have a ton of land in front facing the road as long as there was enough land to provide privacy and decrease road noise.

Since I can have anything I want, I'd also like a coastal cottage someplace warm for the winter and a character-filled loft style apartment in Berlin. We'd move to Germany full-time in a heartbeat if it weren't for family here in the States. For now, we'll have to visit often.

While the hubby is not happy with our house, I think once we make some improvements it will be ideal. It's got enough space, is new and nothing is falling apart, and its in a great neighborhood for the boys. My parents moved about every two years, so my dream home is somewhere I can stay and see the trees grow tall and not have to start a growth chart over and over again.

My idea of a house changes in time, but it always includes a cleaner and a gardener. I wouldn't say to to a chauffeur, cook and personal assistant, either. :-)

I would want one of two things-

A small wooden cabin with the tall rafter type ceilings and built in fireplaces on a mountainside in CO.

Or an open style beach house with a back deck that has stairs right to the gulf in TX.

Neither needs to be huge as I hate cleaning tons of space. Ceilings fans are a must no matter where and I need hardwood floors no carpeting, a dishwasher & an ice maker and I'm a very happy woman!

For me it's got to definitely be craftsman or Southern colonial. About location, I don't really care as long as the weather is mild and it's lush green all around and where shopping and restaurants are very nearby.

Something like this:

I don't have a dream house exactly. My tastes change a lot. I also appreciate just about every style of home in one way or another. There are features of them all that I would love and other features of all of them that I'd prefer not to have. I think as long as I'm in a single family home that is large enough for all of us and has some space between us and the neighbors that I'll be happy. :)

I like Craftsman but it would stick out in the desert and I love living where I do. So to fit in up here, I would say a sprawling Tuscan style. I asked DH, he said "a castle" That's my man.

I would love a southern style home with wrap around porch and that old colonial feel.....and I would actually really like to move closer to my home than where I am now....we have actually considered it, just don't think we could get out from under where we are now....

I am from VA and the housing market there is so much cheaper!!!

When we're done with the military our plan is to build an 'Aspen' house...wood and stonework like you'd see on a mountainside somewhere. We're hoping to wind up in the Pacific Northwest and would like some land.

Right now we live in an early 80s contemporary. We like it for the most part, it reminds me of what I grew up in. Only problems...it' really cheaply built and we don't like the area. Fortunately the military is taking care of #2 come winter....

Hmmm...I'm not too picky about which style home I would have as a dream home. That said, our house is way too small right now (and only ONE bathroom for five people!) and I'm not too pleased with the amount of workable land we have but at the same time my kids range in age from 10 mos. to 7 years old and now I would have a hard time leaving our home behind since there are so many memories built up here already.

I don't know what "style" I would want (don't really know what "styles" there are lol), but I do know it would have to be cozy but still modern, with 4 bedrooms, an office or playroom and at least two baths. An open layout like we have now would be a must, too.

I love my house and have so many plans for it. I can't say for sure what my dream home is because I am very practical and appreciate every style house. I love old Victorians and super modern, contemporary homes. Big difference there. I would love to have a home on the ocean in the south somewhere, Florida, the Carolinas, Virginia, but I don't actually see myself moving there. I just love the ocean.

Well. I don't dream of a certain style of home too often... homes here in South Florida don't have much unique character... most were built in the 1970's and are one story ranch or split-level style. The other majority are big blocky 2-story, 1990's builder-community type homes.

When I want to dream, I drive down A1A and gawk at the huge mansions on the beach... most of those are Spanish style, ultra-modern, or Cape Cod style. I do like the Cape Cod ones with the big porches and lots of windows. Fancy roof lines and such:

And inside I can imagine it looking like this:

If I wanted a house, I'd love to have it in Weimershof - it's a neighbourhood here in Luxembourg, not far from where I live normally. It's very neat and cute, like Lego town! But the houses - even though they will seem small to you from the US (to me they seem huge, haha) - are incredibly expensive (2 million EUR and up), so it's not like I'm ever going to get one. :-)

Some pics I took during a walk once:

I"ve always loved the Victorian style with the wrap around porches and neat features like turrets, bay windows and gingerbread scrollwork. Our first house actually was a Victorian style, but it was a tiny thing made cookie cutter style by a company for it's workers. It had once had a bay window, but someone had taken it off - others on the street had them. Man it was a lot of work to redo that house. If I could have a bigger one in this style that was already redone/restored I might consider it LOL

I do love a good open floor plan with nice high ceilings though - and that doesn't really jive with the Victorian style  some of the historic houses I've been in around this area (Virginia) actually make me feel claustrophic now.

As far as location, I'd totally go back to Colorado. Virginia and Pennsylvania have been the other places I have enjoyed living in. My lungs and sinuses would really love to return to a drier climate with less pollen and humidity 😣
