Are your kids like you?

I was a total tomboy as a kid. I hated getting my hair done, hated pink, hated dresses, etc. I loved getting dirty and playing hard.

In comes Gemma.... Loves pink, loves dolls, loves getting her hair done and has recently started to refuse wearing anything but dresses.

Yet she's just like me in the fact that she will not take no for an answer and is extremely hard headed.

Hmmm, I had to think back for a few minutes to her childhood and mine... we're pretty much the same in a lot of ways before we hit our teens. We both loved to be outdoors instead of inside playing with Barbies and dolls; we both loved to be in the water (we both grew up on a lake until our Jr. High school years). She doesn't mind wearing dresses and getting dressed for special events (proms, special dances, etc.) and she does like makeup and doing her hair (typical teen there). I hated wearing dresses but in high school had to get used to it since I went to a private school and dresses/skirts were mandatory for a lot of things. For school she is a jeans girl but loves to dress up the rest of her outfit with nice tops/sweaters, and killer shoes (I could care less about shoes and she has a definite shoe fetish).

She gets her athletic abilities from her father, NOT ME! LOL Her never give up personality comes from us both ... hard to say since it's been just she and I since she was 2.5 years old and I think a lot of her personality has been shaped by emulating me, KWIM? She didn't have her father around to learn from so I guess it's natural for her to be more like me.

so interesting! I love figuring out my kids' personalities. They're so fun when they grow up (even if they also make me want to bang my head against a wall sometimes, haha)

So far my little trolls only take after me in one way, they're just as stubborn and strong willed as I am. Even my 1 year old is getting quite the personality and will stick to her way wether I like it or not. I'm dreading their teens.

We definitely have things in common but our personalities are all pretty different. That being said, we're a tight bunch.

My daughter looks JUST like me as I look JUST like my mother, too. Strong genes on my side of the family evidently. :p She also has a similar personality to me (+ some of her own melodrama): a rule-following perfectionist with a vivid imagination who feels things very deeply and thinks through things very deeply, too.

She is much more left-brained than I am, though, and her interests reflect that. She loves math and science and engineer-y things, like Legos and puzzles and video games/Minecraft, and several of her favorite TV shows involve superheroes. She has always been REALLY into animals. I don't like ANY of those things and never have. She does like to craft and shop like I do, but I think she enjoys them more because she knows I like them and she gets to spend time with me, KWIM?

It's been sooo fascinating to me to see someone who looks exactly like me on the outside be so different on the inside.

Each of them have aspects of me...but are completely unique in their own ways.

Most of my life I was a tomboy, fishing, wearing only jeans and t-shirts, not really caring what the other girls did, perfectionist, over-achiever, quiet, shy, crafty, didn't like to show emotion in public...

Anna: She's my personality mini. She is quiet, shy, crafty, doesn't like being the center of attention, a people watcher, smart, likes affection and words of affirmation. She prefers comfort clothes.

Grace: She's my look-a-like. Buttttttt....SO much like my sister. Wild, crazy, loud, likes fashion, only has one speed, FAST! but like me in that she's determined, likes perfection, likes to do well in school, loves learning, inquisitive.

Brody: A friend to everyone, wants to learn, likes trucks/tractors/cowboys. ALWAYS wears jeans. He's a softy on the inside but plays tough on the outside.

I think our kids got their personalities from dh and I, but have taken them to the extreme, lol! I was goofy, emotional and FULL of ideas. Eden takes those traits to a whole new level. John was quiet and introverted, but Johnny is EXTREMELY both of those things.

My oldest son is a total mini-me. Since we aren't the same gender, I can't really compare how we stack up that way, but in terms of his appearance and personality traits, we are very similar.

My son is nothing like me. He is outgoing, loves being the center of attention, loves talking. I was horribly shy and quiet.
