Please help me!!!

I am totally new to scrapbooking and I need help. I purchased Micheline Martin's Crunch Time Templates last night and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

First off, I use PSE6. Are these templates compatible with this program?

I got the rip pasted on top of the torn page and even got the shadow underneath. BUT, it looks flat, there's no depth; my crunch is mushy! What do I do? I thought I followed the directions but it just looks like a cut out piece of paper stuck on top of the same paper background with a bit of a shadow.

I have HUGE ct that uses a variety of programs and I could get them to explain it in more detail for you
Have you used your blend mode on the cut out piece of paper to blend it to the "rip that I have in the zip" to give it that look?
