but i think someone can help me anyway lol. I am planning on making trick or treat paint cans for the kids. i decided to just go to Hobby Lobby and pick up some papers and things instead of printing. i't be quicker since i don't think i'm going to get around to making them til near Halloween because i can't seem to find any paint cans. Menards carries them but everytime i go in there the shelf is empty. there must be a bunch of scrapbooking freaks like me in this town buying them all :D . anyway, i found thes cute papers and things. i plan on getting more stuff like ribbons and things too.

those black and green papers have raised VELVET texture!!:w00t: they are gorgeous! and everything that i got that day was 50% off!! :w00t: so i spent ten dollars and some change. it would have been about $20 lol. so i'm wondering is Modge Podge going to hold these papers to the metal cans? What else would i use? those velvet papers are a little thicker than the regular papers, not quite like cardstock however. i just wasn't sure if Modge Podge will adhere to metal.
 
I usually use spray adhesive when covering tins and cans. I'm sure someone will come along who can give you an American brand name. I have used modpodge before and it was okay, just try really hard to smooth out any wrinkles and air bubbles - I used a brayer/roller
 
Yes, make it as easy as you can on yourself! Spray adhesive is the way to go. If you were printing your own papers, I'd tell you to print on full sheets of sticker paper and cover with a clear laminate paper. quick, easy and best of all - no waiting for stuff to dry!!! LOL I can put a basic can together in 20 minutes this way :)

I would recommend that you go OUTSIDE to spray!!! And I would suggest doing it on a cardboard box or something. I made the mistake of doing this on my desk and ruined it with the overspray!!!

I found my plain metal paint cans @ Ace Hardware, not sure if you have those where you are but also try any hardware or home improvement stores. I can't ever find them at any of the craft stores here (Michael's, Hobby Lobby & Joann's) though you would think they'd carry them! You could order online from like Oriental Trading but they are going to be more expensive than the hardware stores.
 
we probably have an Ace here in Kokomo. i know think there is one in Logansport where my MIL and FIL live. We also have a Sherwin-Williams paint store, i wonder if they'd have them? i haven't hit Lowes or Home Depot yet. they'd probably have them too.

thanks for telling me to go outside to use spray adhesive, lol. i would have done it at my kitchen table probably. duh. lol
 
I got mine at Sherwin Williams when I first started doing paint can decor way back when. They should pretty much never be out of them since they do more custom paint stuff.

I also agree on the spray adhesive as it works the best. Definitely go outside and don't spray near anything you care about, overspray is killer!

I have even used sticky tabs and then modge podged just to seal them before.

You got some great supplies there so have fun with them!
 
BTW, I didn't notice if you got any matching ribbon, I would wrap the handles too cause little hands can get tired of carrying that metal. :) you could do it like this:

or just wrap one continuous piece around from end to end if you don't want to buy that much ribbon. I happen to be a ribbon freak! :)
 
Hmmmm, thinking outloud here...

I wonder if you can get some thin foam to go around the wire handle, wrap it with ribbon and then tie extra ribbons onto that just to make it extra comfortable...

I think I know what I'm going to be doing this week... LOL!!!

I love the papers you got, and what a deal!!!! I would use modge podge but the spray adhesive I'm sure would work better, I have to get some of that too!

Can't wait to see your can once it's done!
 
I am planning on getting some ribbon. i also thought about wrapping pipe cleaners around the handle maybe? foam would also work. i'll have to look around for some ideas. i'm planning on bringing a plastic bag to carry extra candy so if their cans get too full i can take some out.
 
I am planning on making one for my niece ( almost 2) so the foam is a GREAT idea!!! I have bunches of the fun foam so that should work really well id I use ribbon too!!! I am gonna use a mix of my own papers and print some stuff from various kits...so it will be a mix!!! I can't wait to see how yours come out Corey, it is such a fun project!!!
 
I'm still waiting to see photos of your paint cans Corey and Christine!!!! Not nice to keep a gal waitin'!!!!! :thumbdown: LOL
