Oh. No. Pc Monitor vs. Sharpie

So. I woke up this morning to this -


And 2 guilty looking girls who were frantically trying to scrub blue sharpie off my countertops. So not worried about the countertops - they've actually done that before, and dh has some super stinky chemical stuff to fade it most of the way, and the rest will come off after a bunch of normal washes. But I'm so sad about my monitor! He's still sleeping, so I'm not sure if his stuff is safe to use on an LCD screen or not(it will take some pattern off the countertops lol) - but how do you clean your LCD screens? I honestly don't even clean mine other than dusting with a soft dry rag.

Does anyone have ANY ideas?? lol, I'm scared to touch it and mess it up, so it's going to wait until dh gets up.

I have no idea, but HUGS! My DD took sharpie to the carpet about 10 years ago and we JUST got rid of that carpet, so I am not a good role model!
 
dh said anything has the potential to ruin the protective covering on the screen :thumbdown: Omg, thats awful. I hope your dh has some answers for you!
 
Do you have any dry erase markers handy? If you write on a white board with a Sharpie and then color over it with a dry erase marker, it'll wipe right off. Not sure if it'd work on a screen but might be worth a shot. I'd try it on a small section first.

Oh, Dawn, that sucks!! This is one of those things that isn't a total loss and not a necessity, and probably won't get replaced unless it stops working altogether, so if I can't get it off, I'll just have to live with it.

It was an accident - I keep the sharpies fairly hidden in my computer space, and with the screen dark before I got up, they didn't even know they had done it. So glad they weren't trying to draw my little ponies on my screen!! :D they must have been trying to put the sharpie back in the cup or something with the lid off and just accidentally swiped it.

Hmm, that sounds like it makes sense! I would for sure test it first! I'm gonna try google too. Lol, I know we all love our monitors and most of us have kids, so I thought I'd see if anyone here had experienced this before.
 
That has happened to us! We use the dry-erase marker trick. DH is an animator, and he actually uses dry-erase markers on the monitor purposely. ;) so, it won't harm the monitor. Just draw over top of the line with a back and forth scribble and wipe away firmly with a dry paper towel immediately.

If it makes you feel any better, I came home from work last year to my brand new 27-inch iMac screen with new scratches thanks to my 2-year old nephew trying to write on it with a pen. Worse part? My lazy sister was laying on my couch not watching him when it happened! I wanted to kill her!
 
Rubbing alcohol is usually pretty good to get sharpies off, but I have no clue if it's bad for your monitor...
 
I am happy to report we got it off!!!!! So excited :D I googled as well, and I got nail polish remover, magic eraser, baby wipes and the dry erase marker deal. Out of those, I only had wipes and dry erase markers lol. Decided to try the wipes first, since that seemed the least likely to hurt it, but it totally worked! I didn't think it would at all. Whew, that is such a relief :)

I love my monitor.
 
Thanks girls :) I'm glad I didn't have to use dry erase markers though - but I would have, and intended to bc I thought no way would wipes work. Adding marker to it would have made me cringe, but Brook - good to know it really does work!

Oh Marla, that sucks big time!!
 
Yay! I'm so glad the baby wipes worked! My two have been out of diapers a long time but I will never be without them. I should have thought to mention them because I once removed pen from my couch with a baby wipe. Kind of makes me wonder how they can do those things and still be safe for a baby's bottom? Lol.

As for the dry erase trick, test it out on the bottom of a plate. I learned the trick from someone at a thrift store because I was mad they wrote the prices on everything with a sharpie. :)

:D That's funny. Yea, my girls are 8 and I still love to keep wipes handy!
 
Oh no!! Glad you were able to remove it. I'll have to remember what you used, because it sounds like something my kids would do :glare:
 
I'm glad you got it off. Good to know about the baby wipes! My kids are 4, 7, and 9, but we still always have them around, too.

I do this all the time when my students accidentally use sharpie on my whiteboard. I'd give it a try. Again, test a tiny spot first.
