NSBR: Does anyone know...

If you can rearrange windows in your bottom bar? Not sure if that makes sense. LOL! Like the bottom line that shows all your open windows/programs.

I have a specific order that I like things to be in (especially for work) and when things get mixed up, I hate to have to close programs and re-open, just to get them back in the right order.

I've tried to drag and drop, or right click and it doesn't give me the option. Does anyone know a trick that I don't?

TIA!

I'm the same way! If outlook isn't first, and firefox second, I get a little crazy! Lol!

But no, I don't think you can rearrange them in the task bar. You can on the part all the way to the left, next to the start button. The quick start section (where you click on it, and outlook opens easily, etc). But the regular task bar, no. (Is it the task bar? Or am I calling it the wrong name?)

omg i know what you mean...I like Firefox to be the first one, but sometimes it gets out of order and drives me crazy!

OK I just right clicked on mine and see an option to "Lock" the task bar. What if you opened what you liked "In order" and then "locked it" that might keep everything where you want it.

I would suggest doing a quick google search and I bet you can find yourself some answers!!!!

Good Luck!!!

I'm the same way, and no, I don't believe there is a way to get them in the right order.

I have settings on many of my programs so I can "close" them, but they just go the little space on the right of the screen (can't remember what that's called) and then I can reopen them in the right order without having to reload them all.

I like mine to be in the order of: Photoshop, ACDSee, Outlook (though I don't use it anymore), Firefox, iTunes...and then whatever after that I don't really worry about, lol.

When I had a PC, I was able to arrange them in the order that I wanted. I had my taskbar locked, so I unlocked it and dragged the icons to where I wanted them on the tackbar, then I locked it again. Bear in mind that I had XP and not Vista.

ETA: This was the quick links on the right of the start bar.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who likes 'em in order! Mine has to be Outlook, PS, FTP program, ACDSee, IE

I searched and searched and it looks like you can't move them on Vista, dang! Guess I'll just have to keep closing and re-opening.

the icons on the left, your Quick Launch, can be customized. The buttons on the right can also be somewhat customized. Unfortunately, the tabs on the main part of the task bar can't. Drives me up the wall sometimes too, although I am not too particular on order, as long as my Quick Launch is how I like it. hehehee

My new laptop just arrived and it has Vista. How hard is it to adjust to?

Col, I have had no problems adjusting to Vista. I kinda like it more than XP. The way I see it, changing to a newer platform takes some getting used to it - I mean, I remember before there was any standard OS (when I was in school and we did everything by DOS), Windows 95, then 98, then XP and now Vista. And Vista is by far my fave.

Thanks Sonja! I figured it wouldn't be too hard. I'm hoping to get PS and ACDSee on it tonight to play.

I def remember DOS. I used to play reader rabbit and those games when I was little, and it was all DOS, lol.

When I was little, like maybe grade 4 or 5, we learned "computer programming" on those huge monster apple macs, with the orange or green screens...we learned how to create games with code. I can't remember any of it now, don't ask me why we were required to learn it, lmao. In grade 6 our school got new computers (PC's with Windows) and we'd play games that were stored on those HUGE floppy discs, lol.

And then in grade 7, I remember the first bulletin board system we used up here between schools...prehistoric social networking.

Man...how far we've come. ;)

OMG, that's the name of the game I was talking to my sister about the other day...I couldn't remember it for the life of me (I was trying to explain what Chocolatier was like, lol).

i love vista. like, i'm so used to it now, it's almost torture to be on any system lower than that.
some of the options are different, but other than that, it's simple to use. and the whole 'windows sidebar' thing is FABULOUS! i have a clock and a notepad and a calendar.. lol.
you'll get used to it.

AND
i remember oregon trail. and the ENORMOUS floppy disks. i think we probably still have some of those. i know we still have the smaller floppy disks. but yes, i remember that game. we played it for HOURS in school. on the old macs with the green screens!

Anyone who says they didn't LOVE oregon trail is a GIANT HUGE LIAR! I remember in the computer lab they only had a certain number of disks for oregon trail. So half the kids played that, and half the kids played the other games. We had to have assigned seats, and the discs were rotated around the room so everyone had their fair turn on OT! LOL!

Today is like torture! I just want to go home and play with my new toy! LOL! I've heard about this side bar and I'm a little weary. I'm a minimalist kinda girl. I hate esktops icons, and I hate extras things cluttering up my screen, lol. We'll see how it works out for me :p

Oh I loved Oregon Trail!!! Did any of your ever play Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? We used to have that in computer lab too!

Col- Vista is an adjustment and sometimes it bugs me when it asks about opening things, or downloading, or installing fonts. But overall I really like it. It's also my first experience with IE 7 and I really LOVE the tabs!

We had that one at home, lol...and I remember games like Chip's Challenge, which was fun. Oh man, was I a dork... LMAO!

Dude, I loved Carmen Sandiego too. I had like all the different versions... where in time, where on earth. Love that game. I'd probably still play it if I could find it. LOL

Um I totally had the carmen game AND watched the tv show religiously. Yes. There was a tv show. And the folger's coffee guys sang the theme song and various parts of it.

Kids these days don't know what they're missing. I totally smell a challenge in this. Like a pop rocks in reverse.

Oh and Jac, I use firefox, but tabs are the greatest thing ever in life. I don't know how I surfed the net without them.

I use the new IE as well (but I have XP) and I LOVE the tabs. I hate seeing Tony working on his computer with all of those windows open LOL.

I have mine in a certain order also. I thought I was the only one who would need them like that, but I should have known that you would be the same as me Jac LOL

Oh that would be such a fun pop rocks challenge! And LMAO... I watched the show too!

K...I'm really old cause when I was in high school we didn't even get a computer lab until my grad year!! I have never heard of any of this stuff!! ARG!!

I used to watch this show too! I always loved the part at the end with the map on the floor. LOL And the group was called Rockapella, they're still actually together, touring and stuff. I think the big tall guy isn't part of the group anymore though.

We had Oregon Trail and Reader Rabbit on our home computer. I just remember my dad upgraded the computer at one point and the games ran SO fast, it was hilarious. Reader Rabbit could really dance then. :p

Omg I had all the rabbit games at home. Reader Rabbit, Math Rabbit. I think there was another one too, lol. I loved when he danced! LOL!
