New Avatar Pic Help!

So, what is the secret to getting an avatar photo small enough that is still clear? Are there instructions anywhere? I've been messing with this for 30 minutes or so and can't seem to figure it out. I've cropped a pic, put it in photoshop, and am going the image resize route at 150 pixels x 150 pixels and it's still not small enough and is super blurry. This is why I never change it, because it's a Pain!
 
Got the new siggy to work. Still trying to figure out the avatar-tried saving it for the web and it still says it's too big. Not sure why this always gives me such trouble.
 
When you tried to save it for web, did you lower the quality less than 100%?

Yep. Saving for the 29 kb at 150 pixels by 150 pixels. I don't understand why I have no trouble saving layouts and uploading them, but have tons of trouble with the avatar.
 
try lowering the size to 20 kb. Sometimes it says 29 kb but it cannot be uploaded because it's actually more. If it doesn't work, upload your avatar to tinypic or somewhere else and send it to me via PM.
 
Finally got it. Not sure what I did different than the 27 other times I tried to do it, but it worked. Thanks for your help.
 
I'm having issues too...and feel like I am doing the same things - mine shows up in my profile as a link - so weird!

I feel your pain. I'm 'm not sure what I finally did to make it work. I was doing a combination of image resize and then save for web. I did finally push the file size down to 25 kb. I don't know why I always have trouble with the avatar pic, but I do.
