my mounjaro journey

hey everyone,

just wanted to see if there are others here on their mounjaro journey. i just started on july 11th so still very new to all of this. i came to the conclusion that just losing weight without any help wasn't going to work anymore. i am not eligible for weight loss surgery because of my achalasia so mounjaro was the only option for me. bit the bullet and signed up for yazen. i am paying out of pocket since i don't have diabetes. it is so expensive but hopefully well worth it. the food noise is gone and i fill up from food quickly which is a new sensation for me :p tomorrow is weigh-day and i just hope i can see a little nudge down. anyway, just wanted to share. hopefully everyone is doing well ♥

hugz...

I have been doing another version since the last week of January. I am down 29 pounds. It's been great. Some side effects but not enough to stop me.

I take Ozempic. The weight has been coming off slowly. I took a break for several months because the side effect of vomiting (with no warning) was wearing me down. Now that I've started back on it again, it's only happened once. I'm hoping that it will continue to have lessened side effects. I really take it to help with my A1C number, and since it does work positively for that, then I'm continuing on.

I've lost 70 pounds since 2017. Most of that weight came off when I got my spinal cord stimulator and with the SCS + pain meds, I was able to manage pain. So I was able to walk and do chores around the house, etc., instead of just SITTING all the time.

I attribute about 10 to 20 pounds of this to Ozempic.

Praying that your journey is successful!

Best of luck Bianka!!

I took Wegovy for a bit, but the side effects were so bad I couldn't continue, plus I wasn't losing weight. I then tried Ozempic, unfortunately, with the same result.

I was stumped why I wasn't able to lose weight, but believe that was because I had hypothyroidism and didn't know it at that time.

I have a girlfriend that's been on Ozempic for year and she's lost around 45 pounds and doing great.

Please keep us posted!

I hope it works great for you! One of my best friends has been on Ozempic for the last year, and she's lost 50 lbs. She measures her wins in other ways, too, like needing a sweater because she was cold for the first time in years and having the energy to start walking for exercise.

I'd so like to try one of them! I don't need to lose a lot of weight but I just cannot seem to get any pounds to budge these days.

Here is a question to all that are using medication to lose weight...

Do you see/consult a doctor about which medicine to take? If so, what particular doctor do you go to? Your GP?
I've heard the craze about taking ozempic to lose weight, but I am wondering how to start on it?

How exciting Biancka, will you keep me posted on your journey pretty please?

I was thinking about going to see the doc and talk about Ozempic, but I still need to think about that.
I have had a gastric bypass in the past, about 15 years ago and it did not what was expected, cause of my history....
yeah I still need to think about it haha

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the end of February, and I started taking Mounjaro in early March. I am down 38lbs, but better yet, my blood work is looking a lot better than it used to. Sugar is normal, and cholesterol is almost there and that was through the roof before I started.

I have hypothyroidism and have been on medicine for that for years but it is tricky, and you need a doctor who doesn't look at numbers but looks at whether the symptoms are being controlled.

Good luck

I see my primary care physician. He does lab work every 3 months. If I was just using for weight loss, I would stop taking it because it makes me feel so icky nauseated. But I'm really wanting my A1C number to go down so I'm trying to hang in here. Some people don't have any side effects . . . I just was one of the lucky ones. :p

Thank you Cheryl for answering my questions.
From my understanding, you are taking it due to some other health problems that need you to lose some weight. For me, I just need to lose some persistent weight that stays with me after being pregnant with the kids... It's been 4 years since I birthed Michelle and I am 6-8kgs away from my healthy weight. :(

Yes, I have Type 2 Diabetes, and the medication is quite effective at lowering my A1C number.

If you have weight that you can't seem to lose, I would definitely talk to your primary care physician about at least TRYING it out for a month to see if you tolerate it well and see if you have weight loss.

Ozempic is like Mounjaro. I think there are at least two other injectables besides those. The biggest thing is getting insurance to pay for the medication. I think most of these types of medications run around $1,000.00 per month. There are coupons that you can get online if your insurance won't cover the prescription.

Good luck to you! I've struggled with extra weight even in my teen years, and I know the frustration when you are taking steps to reduce your weight, and nothing is happening.

Thank you soooo much for explaining it so well, Cheryl. Now I get the picture and how to go from there.
Unfortunately, I won't be covered by insurance if I decide to get medication here, so just thinking of the costs scare me. On top of that, I don't have any primary care physician that I go to see here (healthcare system here differs from US and UK, in that sense), so I'll have to figure out which doctor to go to consult on this.

So far, I've been eating more consciously, swimming and doing more exercise, but yeah... extra weight is a constant struggle here at the moment.

Always here to chat if you have more questions. You might find that you have access to these medications at a lower price point where you are. Fingers crossed that's the case!

I took wegovy for since March this year and it's been great for me.

I've been regularly went to my GP since beginning of last year because of heavy bleeding in my period (blame it to peri menopause) and since then my weight has been up and up and up... :crying:
I gained almost 15 kgs (about 30+ lbs) last year and tried all different diets and exercise but nothing works, so in the beginning of this year I asked my GP to get my weight under control and she suggested to try wegovy.
I took it for 4 months and now I lost enough weight to continue without it.
No major side effects for me, only for the first 2 months I felt very tired but that could be because I ate less so I have less energy.

Sherly, I think you need to see a doctor or GP if you want to try.
In Australia we can only get it with prescription and my GP monitor my weights and if there's any side effects in the first month, 3 months and 6 months.

Biancka, hopefully this works for you and helps you to feel better :hugs:

PS : yes, the costs sting :(

I've heard of people taking them without guidance from a physician and though it's tempting, I don't think I want to risk my health for it... is it really safe enough to just try it like that?

It's good to hear that it works for you, Eve.
You see, it's scary to see such meds like Ozempic being sold freely in the e-market place... That's why I am soooo hesitant.

I've heard about it too but I wouldn't suggest to try it without doctor's supervision because just like every medicine, some fits some people some don't and for this one, some people get some nasty side effects and my doctor also monitor the dosage, how much and how long before I get to the next dosage. I didn't get to the full dosage because it's already works for me.

I actually have a pharmacist who calls me once a month and we discuss all that I have lost and how I am feeling, and discuss if I should go up in dosage or stay the same. I only had occasional burps with the first few dosages but this 1.7 dosage has given me some extra side effects but since it's working I will tough through them. My GP is who prescribed it to me.

Thank you, Eve & Mari!
I will do some research to find a GP that knows about this field and see if I can start this weight loss journey soon... If not, I might just have to push through towards healthy living and accept the extra weight for now.

I'm on WeGovy, which is similar to Ozempic. I am in a 'late bariatric surgery' group that tracks patients after 1 year (when the surgeon releases you) and they prescribed it. I lost 110 lbs from my WLS, gained back about 30, and WeGovy has helped me lose 20 of that. It's slow going - since last July - but my plan covers it as the doctor is a specialist and that's what was needed to go on it. I haven't had any side effects really.

My journey is different because I have Cushing's disease. The Cushing's caused severe weight gain and type 2 diabetes. After my tumor was removed, I went on Mounjaro. That was a year ago. I have lost 160 lbs- I'd have lost a bunch of weight regardless because of the Cushing's correction, but I feel good on the Mounjaro. My A1C is also down to the low end of normal. All in all, it's been a very positive experience for me....but treating the Cushing's was so much of a relief, that I don't know what it would be like for me without that part.
