Make-up Help!

I'm very much a no-fuss person and rarely wear any make-up, but I need to up my professional image for work and need some help.

I don't want anything heavy and can't wear a lot of eye make-up. I have very pale and sensitive skin as well. I'm looking for a sensitive skin friendly line of make-up that will give me light coverage and even out any redness without looking cakey. I live in Florida, so powders are pretty much out unless you know of a line that is light and will stand-up to the humidity.

What do you all use and love?
 
Is cost an issue to you?

My sister uses dior airbrush foundation and it is AMAZING! Pretty sure she, like me, has sensitive skin :)

Cost isn't an issue.

I've thought about the airbrush stuff, but it looks so heavy.

I'll definitely check out Sephora. I plan to visit a few places based on recommendations and have them put a new face on me before I buy. I need to test things prior to purchase because of my skin.
 
Definitely try sephora. The last time I was there we did mini makeovers. My friend concentrated on learning about foundation and we were super amazed at how well the product worked. I had an eye makeover. I think they have 4 to choose from.

I have oily skin so I like primers to avoid that cakey look. My faves are:

I rarely wear makeup but when I do I'm a Bare Minerals girl and have been for years. I have really dry skin and since I'm old and have a lot of fine lines I don't like liquids because they just go into the fine lines and make them look worse. We just got a Sephora here in our mall - might check them out :D
 
What kind of skin do you have, Jenn? I find that in the FL humidity, a primer is a must to keep the makeup from melting off your face or from the oil just soaking it up. :p I am a simple girl and have a budget, so I try to stick to makeup I can buy easily at drugstores. Some things I spend money on though. Especially foundation & mascara.

If I were you I would go with Clinique. Their 'balanced' makeup is nice and light feeling. They are hypoallergenic, and great for sensitive skin. Their mascara is the most non-irritating I have ever used. And their products don't smell funny. You can go to a counter at Nordstrom or Macy's (if you go during a busy time you might want to call ahead) and sit and let them help you find your products. Or, schedule a make-over with them and wear it for the day to see how you like it before buying. :)
 
Youngblood Cosmetics or Clinique

It's not harsh at all and very lightweight. I have very sensitive skin and also have rosacea and it is one of the best foundations I have found.

I also you the Clinique Cream to Powder foundation and it is also great but can become a bit oily if you have a tendency toward oiliness.

Wow. I'm one of those geeky minimalist kind-of people. Didn't know there was so much to know about makeup! This is awesome gals. I'm going to need to try some primer....
 
Seriously, I'm with you Kristi. I've never even heard of make-up primer. LOL I needed more help than I realized.

I wore Clinique years ago when I wore a bit of make-up and had good luck with it. I also really loved their skincare line in general. They're on my list as well as some of the others recommended here.

Totally agree on needing a primer in the humidity. Here in Houston I use the Bare Minerals primer. I also use Alima Pure mineral makeup and love it. My skin is sensitive and I reacted badly to Bare Minerals makeup but Alima Pure is great. Plus they have a really wide range of shades so I actually found something that didn't make me look orange.
 
I think a mineral make up brand will work great for you. I used to love everyday minerals in summer and it worked great, no pancake look! And it is easy to use and they will have a color for you skin for sure. I am very pale as well.
 
WOW! I live under a rock!!! A primer? I have never heard of that!!!! I usually wear mascara and that is it. I go for the "let's freckle up and cover the blemishes" look for 8 months out of the year!!!! The other 4 months are too cold in Chicago so I don't go outside!!!

I will definitely be watching this thread!!!
 
Thanks again for all the suggestions! Juli and I are hitting Sephora on Saturday so I can try a few things out! I'm going to take this list and see what they suggest for me!

I can totally hook you up ... if you're looking to go all "scary clown".
because that's how I totally feel if I wear make-up. I just use a bit of Clinique foundation [not even all over] just to even out my skin tone and to help minimize the awesome shade of red that my rosacea provides.
 
I've never really used a primer and went to Sephora on Monday...I ended up with the Smashbox photofinish foundation primer and I've used it all week...i love it. It's humid here (but chilly this week!) but it feels amazing on my face
