Imgur blocked in the UK

Sob :( They have blocked access to Imgur in the UK in response to not wanting to comply with recent UK regulations.

So I'm seeing lots of purple boxes saying "Content not available in your region" instead of all the pretty signatures and other images in threads :(

  • Online Safety Act (OSA). The UK’s new Online Safety Act introduces strict rules around age verification, harmful content, and user safety. Platforms must either comply with new moderation and verification standards or risk penalties.
  • Regulatory pressure. The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) had been investigating Imgur’s parent company, MediaLab, over how it handles children’s data and access. Reports suggest the ICO even issued a notice of intent to fine the company earlier in September.
  • Commercial decision. Instead of overhauling its service to meet these new requirements, Imgur appears to have taken the simpler route by blocking all UK users. Imgur support messages shared online confirm that uploading and logging in are now disabled in the UK.
 
Oh no! I'm so sorry you aren't able to view their content anymore. Maybe they will change in the future.
 
Oh no! That stinks... Wondering about alternatives, because our community's images should be accessible to everyone </3

Thankfully, it's PostImages I use myself. The basic plan is free and I find it easy to use (what's not to love?!). It's not good seeing all the purple boxes instead :crying:
 
oh man that's such a stinker because a lot of us use Imgur!

I'm willing to look into a different platform if they don't decide to change it soon.
 
That sucks big time!! I use Postimage just like Char already mentioned
and it's easy to use and indeed free...
 
Just to test, I used PostImage for this one. You can see it, right?
I've been using Imgur lately, but I'll switch back to PostImage for the sweet peeks threads if this situation in the UK continues.

Yes, I can see everything hosted by other sites. I use PostImage myself thankfully! I appreciate you changing up your choice of site given how prolific your posts are :D:wub:
 
It was easy enough to create an account with Postimage. I was having some issues sometimes with Imgur so this felt like it was a good opportunity to switch.

and holy smokes it can copy all the image codes from one album!! I'm going to use that for the sneak peek thread! Brilliant!

Yes that's a great feature. Thanks for changing sites. The sweet peaks thread is full of purple boxes for me :(
 
I am trying postimages out to host my siggies, but I can't figure which of the choices I would use to just post the image. Which one did you use for your layout?

I’m not at home to check the site but I believe I hit a little button next to “direct link” to copy the url then used the “image” button in the thread here to paste it.
 
Yep, I use PostImages too. The direct link option and insert it into the 'image' button here in the forum.
 
I didn't even realise there was a signature gallery until very recently, so this is a good shout.
