How messy is your house?

My house used to be immaculate. until I had a baby...he's almost 20 months and my house hasn't been the same since. Oh well. Such is life. I'd rather scrap than clean during nap time.
 
Ours is a little cluttered, but overall I could handle unexpected company...as long as they didn't mind me being unbathed & in my pj's. ; )
 
Mine's not too bad at the moment either. The scrap room is the messiest, and considering I do digital scrapping, there's really no excuse for all the piles of 'stuff' all over the desks.

Downstairs needs a vacuum and a mop, but that's nothing unusual - a 15 minute job if it has to be done in a hurry.
 
I'm not sure if 18 is the right number for the boy.... my 19 year old's room is normally a disaster! I just keep the door shut. He's been gone for the summer working so it's pristine and spotless in there right now. I've had no one actually home this summer other than visits from my daughter and she always keeps her room clean and organized.

I use my allergy to dust to justify my only dusting occasionally. The house is picked up, I'm not much for clutter so it's usually not too bad. My mom just got me a mop. I'm not much for household items but this mop is awesome!! It's a spin pro 360 or something like that. You don't have to touch the water or wring it out and it is amazing. I just mopped the whole house today and feel like it got the floors so much cleaner.

My parents dropped by today and I didn't clean up at all. I hope they thought it was okay.
 
Mine's pretty clean downstairs at the moment since my In laws have arrived today. We cleaned up a bit for them. But I would say my house normally has that "lived in" look to it. With 5 kids and 2 cats and hubby and I it can get pretty messy. But I'd be ok if someone stopped by today. heheh
 
It's always at its worst, mess-wise, when my stepson is here for the weekend.. like now. Once he goes home tomorrow night, I'll be able to pick and clean up everything that has been left out or not taken care of over the last two days.

It's messier, generally-speaking, on the weekends when everyone is here.

It's cleanest during the week when everyone is at work/daycare and then outside all night after work. :thumbup:

I'm going to start having Fridays off and once Monkey starts going to preschool in September, I'll actually have the house to myself for a few hours every week with BIG PLANS to actually get it cleaned the way I'd like it to be. :wub:
 
My house is CLEAN, but it's not tidy. Like, I keep the kitchen counters cleaned, toilets cleaned (usually), and that kind of stuff. But there are always toys everywhere, no matter what I do about it. I pick them up at night but it's not a real thorough sort through them and put them all in their place. I do that about once every 2 weeks. Only because it drives me to the brink of insanity!

Our mudroom though, where we keep our laundry, is not only a laundry dumping ground but a general dumping ground. It's where everything we are holding when we walk in the door gets put. I HATE that room but thankfully when people come over, they really don't see it.

My annoyance about my house is more about it's general state of half-finishedness. We got a new kitchen & hardwood floors last summer, and we still don't have doors or trim replaced in our main living areas. (I mean, we obviously have a front door & a back door.) So my front closet and pantry have no doors on them, and it's the rough edges around the windows with no trim. Very, very annoying. (whew, off-topic much? I guess I had to vent about my house!)
 
I've always had a hard time keeping my house picked up. With 4 boys and I've always worked at something, I've never been a good "housewife." The messes just got different as the boys got older, not necessarily better. And now throw in a dog and it's even worse.

It bothers me a lot and I really would love to have a house that just needs minor cleaning and picking up. I guess we'll see in a few years when all the boys are gone if it's been totally their fault. ;)

I could have people over in an hour. We have a 2-story, so it's not too hard to haul the clutter upstairs if we have to have it presentable quickly.

You mentioned the dog. Pets are part of the issue with the state of my house. We have 3 rabbits, 3 cats and 2 dogs. The amount of hair in my house is ridiculous. Vacuuming once a day doesn't cut it. I rarely vacuum more than that so I typically just deal with some pet hair.
 
VERY BAD. We had to replace windows at the end of June and by this occasion, husband is moving his stuff from living room, that looked like a server room before, to his new "place", my former office. Now July is coming to its end and his stuff is messed in both rooms, on both tables (dining table, small sofa table), there is no place to sit in the living room nor eat. He is away at work the whole day so he does not have to live in the mess like I do (maternity leave) so it does not bother him. The only one place organized yet is my desk with PC, my little sweet corner :) One library is temporarily placed in the bedroom and the content of other libraries is placed at the corridor as they will be moved, too. ARGH.
 
I'd love to always have the chance to clean up before company comes :) It's never a big deal, just a few mins of picking up clothes that my girls drop all over, and at most the days worth of dishes. We don't have a lot of 'stuff' so it never gets too messy anymore. But some days I don't feel like cleaning, and we can get a day's worth of mess :D Like all the dishes, or toys the girls dragged out and didn't put away, or piles of mail and papers. But we're pretty clean, so it's not to big a deal if people don't call. However, lol, since moving away, no one comes over. So, if I don't feel like doing dishes one day - I don't :D

I don't judge people by their houses though :) I love houses that look comfy/homey and lived in over spotless shiny houses that you're too afraid to sit in.
