Homeschooler's chatter - week of 02/16

Yeah, summer is a free for all around here too LOL. On days off or whatever, Chris and I actually take turns - 1 of us plays while the other cleans while waiting for our next turn, and then we switch haha.

I'm obsessed with DLing nicer hair, makeup, and clothes along with furniture, etc. Do you do that too??

Umm... yeah! :D

I'm hesitant about S4 because we don't get toddlers anymore! That sounds too weird too me. IDK, maybe at some point I'll be ready for the change, but for now I'm happy with my S3 families. I dl'ed Monte Vista this last fall and it's kept me satisfied. I've taken a break since Christmas (needed to focus on some other real life stuff), but I'm starting to feel the itch. I love Sims! I used to OBSESSIVELY play with the Fisher Price Little People when I was younger and I really think the play has just shifted from FP to Sims, lol1

BUT IT WAS JUST THE REGULAR OLD-FASHIONED WAY OF DOING DIVISION.

LOL! This is my oldest son's first year of homeschooling and he was doing CC math last year in public school. The way they had them doing multi-digit multiplication was so tedious and time-consuming. I can't imagine how they have them do division!

We've had a good week so far. My MIL and I co-teach and she is out of town so I'm much busier than usual, but we had a science class yesterday at the nature center and have a few more field trips planned as sort of a mid-winter break. We're still keeping up with math and reading but it's kind of nice to have a little change of pace.

My boys have a school cancellation because of the extreme cold and Eden finished her work for the week early so I keep thinking today is Saturday. I even clicked over to the store all excited to see the new releases, which of course weren't there, lol! Guess I'll plan for next week and grocery shop.

Exciting stuff.

Our week so far has gone pretty well besides the fact that I've been totally tired out and haven't been getting great sleep.

One very exciting thing has been happening though. My youngest, Carter (7), has really struggled with reading. He just hasn't been into it and basically thought it was torture to have to try to sound anything out or read a school reader of any sort. I finally decided to just chill out with it for a while and focus on other things and then come back to it later. We still have our individual reading time for all the kids, so I told Carter to just look at whatever books he wanted to for now. Well, this week I picked up a set of Minecraft manuals (his fave game), and he has been browsing them. To my surprise, he was actually willingly trying to sound things out and was reading much more advanced reading than I was trying to get him to do in his readers! Also, dh went and bought Sim City for the computer and was letting the kids build cities. Carter was building in his city yesterday afternoon. So there he is across the room at the computer with his headphones on, READING out loud the game tips and all the info about the different roads and buildings! I was seriously shocked and VERY thrilled.

The two things my son will read 'unprompted' are his Minecraft Manuals :D and Asterix & obelix graphic novels many of which were my DH's when he was a kid. He has a huge collection!

IT'S FRIDAY! I'm just so happy I made it through another week of homeschooling. Haha. It's been a loooong week. :p
