Good morning, mommas! Big plans for this week?

Even though I don't have all of our books, I'm going to map out a semi-schedule for Eden today. We need to have some sort of structure this week. I think tomorrow might be a snow day for public school which means my boys will be home.

Would anyone be interested in some kind of scrapbook challenge? I know most of you are busier than I am.

I'm planning on making our own kinetic sand this week and letting them go to town. I also am planning on having them do a cutting project (Marcus has trouble with scissors still so we do one of these every month) and then some science experiments with dry ice (we've been watching youtube vids). should be a fun week1

Monday - J's violin lessons was moved to since we are going to be gone on Friday... Tuesday was will do our CC (classical convo) stuff... and then we are vacation bound.

I'm still bringing math workbook sheets for him to work on a page or two during breakfast... all my PS friends are like - geez, you are on vacation, can't he be too? Yeah - joy of homeschool - no matter where... no matter when... there will be a school related event! haha He loves math - it would be a punishment if he couldn't do math daily. Of course he will be loaded up on books... he is going through a Geronimo Stilton phase, at the moment - might have to go to Half Price books tomorrow and get him more...

Monday Ezra has an appt with an oral surgeon so he will probably get out of doing anything that day. How do you guys handle that with your other kids?? I feel terrible making the others do it when the one gets out of it. Any tips???

Crystal, I can't remember what their ages are, but if they can handle the logic you could just explain that, hey, I'm cutting Ezra some slack right now because he's going to have a rough day, and I'm sure there will be a time when you'll need a break too.

My dd knows that just because her brothers (in public school) have a snowday doesn't mean that she needs one because she already has a LOT of perks that they don't get and they kinda deserve a day off here and there. She's 12 and she gets it.

What in the world is kinetic sand? Sounds sci-fi, lol!

I can't believe you've never seen kinetic sand! It has dish soap in it, so it sticks together. It's weird but cool! We haven't made it yet, but we played with some at Michael's when it first came out. I couldn't bring myself to buy from them though since it was super expensive. We did our cutting project today and I'm super excited to say that we have officially done an entire year of cutting projects and the progress my boys made was awesome! Marcus had some serious trouble with cutting for a long time (fine motor issues) and I think we've worked through them! I made some stupid little collages really fast because I was so excited, I had to share the progress, haha

My week is pretty much totally sucking. Yesterday, the kids had their homeschool P.E. class (it's from 9-12) and I just came home and worked during that time. We usually have a light day on Mondays- just math & reading- but we did absolutely ZERO school. They did play well, watched an episode of Little House on the Prairie (we are doing early American History now, so I counted that as History... LOL) and did some arts & crafts so it wasn't a total waste of a day.

We all have colds to some extent, so that's making it hard this week. The kids are a little stuffy, but Aaron and I feel close to dead. It's so hard for me to multitask when I'm sick. I have design work to do AND school... and right now work is winning. :p

Today has been a bit better, but we've only done 1/4 of our school so far. We started late, worked up until lunch and they've been outside since they finished lunch. I have to wrangle them back to the table to finish now.

Dude! I wanna make sand!

Poor Brook :( Sorry you're sick but I'm glad the kids aren't too bad. And I would TOTALLY count Little House as history, lol!

Good morning, friends :) What's on the agenda today?

We got some more snow and I don't have any errands that I 'have' to do, so it's a pajama day! I'll still do my daily chores and stuff, but I am generally way too busy so a day at home is very exciting for both of us.

I've got her planned to do 2 math lessons, fill in note cards to study for her science test, piano practice, free writing and reading. I think I'm going to plan reading time for this afternoon for BOTH of us because I dl'ed a new book that I want to get started on.

Adrienne, I meant to tell you yesterday that you're right about the scissor progress. BIG difference! You should scrapbook those photos.

You are such a good mom for making that sand, Adi!!! I am 'mean' I hate play-doh or any kind of messy play stuff like that. :p But I do let them have constant access to drawing & coloring supplies.

Today we are all sick with colds. Cancelled a playdate and won't be going to our Awana clubs tonight. :(

On a positive note, I was disciplined and we started school first thing in the morning before I did anything else. We started at 8:30 and just finished at noon. It is SO good to know it's done for the day and we can just go on with our day. I should do that EVERY DAY. Someone please remind me!!!! :D

Because we're done I out out a bunch of board games on the table inviting them to play. We also have plans to do the library for a few hours, and dinner at Panera Bread to make up for not going to Awana.

I am sooooo bad about starting early. I don't feel like hearing my dd complain, plus I'm lazy.

I"m bad at starting early too simply because I suck at sleeping and end up not getting up until 830-9 after not being able to get to sleep until 1 or 2. We usually start by 930 and finish by 1230/1 depending on how attentive they are. Having a bit of recess now and then sand after!

Brook, I hate playdough and and moon sand and all of those, but I'll make them for them once just for fun. We probably will not make it again after this, haha

That looks cool! We used Moon Sand for a brief period of time when Eden was little. Someone bought it for us I think. It boasted that it was 'mess free' and I'll be darned if that stuff didn't get eeeeeverywhere. I wanna make this just for me, lol!

We had a total late start today. It's been a really really rough week with baby which makes it hard. :( Ezra's dentist appt went well, but he has to go to the hospital in March and have some surgery. *sob* I am quite upset about that but he is fine! lol! He got to go out and get some ice cream after his appt which is always a huge treat.

The boys had a history test today and Stella practiced her reading a lot. She is doing sooo much better than she had been so I am super proud of her! Daddy is working lots this week so that always makes our days drag and drag. Plus it's snowing again which is always depressing. It's been a long week. :(

Hang in there, Crystal! :)

Something I heard someone say once about these days that I will always remember:
"The days are long, but the years are short"

It is so true... some days I think will never end, that I will not make it out alive (or sane). But, boy, does time fly!!!

That is so true. I think if I could just sit here and soak it all up it would be great, but trying to get everything done and all that jazz is just so hard. I am feeling quite defeated lately and trying to snap out of it. I'm a downer. :crying:

Aww, Crystal... the Mr. gone, rough time with the baby AND dental appts? I hope you got a big dish of that ice cream for yourself!

I'm new here, and was so excited to see this homeschool thread! My boys are in 8th & 9th - we've been homeschooling for about 4 years. We've been off school since Christmas break because my daughter got married on January 24th and we've all been in wedding craziness. We'll go back to schooling next week. I have mixed feelings...its been a nice long break, but it will be nice to get back to some sort of structure :)

Well, we didn't get nearly as much done this week as I wanted, but we DID get 7 math lessons done and should be ready to start her Galileo project and next science unit next week. Tomorrow is a homeschool event at Splash Universe (an indoor waterpark. I don't know if they're across the country.)

Welcome! My dd is in 7th grade. This is our 3rd year of hs'ing, but not consecutively. We did 3rd and 4th, then she did public school for 5th and 6th. Had to pull her out after Christmas because of anxiety issues.

WHICH, btw everyone, she had her 4th therapy session today and it went pretty well. She's finally starting to warm up to this therapist a little more. She had a huge attack the other night and I ended up sleeping all night with her. Thankfully she has a large bed and we adore each other.

awww poor thing! I'm glad the sessions are going well, but I'm sorry she's so stressed, poor thing.

So how was this week for everyone overall? High points? Low points?

I think my high point was getting through 7 math lessons in 4 days. My low point is probably just that nagging voice in my head telling me that I'm not 'doing enough'.

Just finished planning for next week.

We dropped the ball almost every day this week and ended up doing only half days. Bah! But counting money finally clicked with Marcus, so I feel like we still won!

We made it through our first week!! Our books came in last Friday and we got started Monday. I try to get going by 9 a.m. every morning, but this week we had a couple of crazy days with appointments so I actually made them finish up stuff today (Saturday), yep mean mom. LOL!! So far I am LOVING It!! My kids are loving it too and doing so well. We are heading out to Seattle for a mini vacay this week and I am bringing their books with us. LOL! I plan to take them to the Pacific Science Center for a field trip. Sorry y'all are feeling icky Brooke. :(

I hope you are feeling better, Brook! Melissa- I'm a mean mom, too - I make Jake do school work sometimes on the weekend, too... ;)

Well, we are entering our last full day of vacation before flying home tomorrow... no book time - but did get J to the Kennedy Space Center on Thursday... tour of Miami on Friday... Drove to Key West and made J go on a tour of Ernest Hemmingway's house - the only thing he got out of that was that Hemmingway was a famous author and he loved cats. :D But I know that we will be reading his books someday and I will drag out of the scrapbook and say - "hey, remember when?"

I have been giving J quizes... like seeing a painting similar to Litchenstein and I'll say - who does paintings like that...

Today we drive back to Tampa... hope to hit something educational with alligators or oranges...
