Okay.. abby needs a bed skirt. So.. I found this on Pinterest and it looks easy and relatively cheap. I only have a couple questions. Is doing it on a fitted sheet the easiest way? I cannot/do not sew. And.. is that the best knot to use? When I googled, it said it was a temporary knot.. so I'm asking. :) I'm not sure I'll bead it.. but I might.

Eeeeeeeeeee that is adorable!!! I've never made one but yes Sara it looks like the best would be to use a fitted sheet and that "knot" might be temporary with a thicker fabric but that tulle is gonna pull so tight that it would be almost impossible to get that knot undone!!!!
 
Sara, I took a look and the fitted sheet, in my opinion is the right way to go. I takes care of having to fit it and it should keep it on and in place. If you mark it while it is on the bed, it should be easy. As to the knot, it should be fine too. It may be a temporary knot, but with the lengths involved, unless someone tries to undo it, it should hold. Washing would be my only worry. All in all, I think it looks cute and should be pretty easy to do. Please take pictures of it finished. :)
 
I've made several tutus....and I do them all the same way that is shown. It's by far the easiest way to do it. Just be careful not to pull the not too tight because then you will have to use more tulle to fill the elastic band. But if you want it to be fuller then you probably should pull the knot tighter.

If you are going to do multiple colors I suggest putting like 2-4 of the same color together then moving to the next color so you can see the colors better. For tutus I normally put 2-3 pieces of the same color next to each other.
 
if it does not stay in place you can buy some of those clips that hold the sheets on the corners. I used those knots on tutus and could not undo the knots at all. I would suggest either dying or getting a sheet a color close to the tulle so if it shows through it would look better.

I'm wondering how some lengths of ribbon would look in there too? I've seen tutus with the ribbon in them and always thought they were super cute. Maybe one day I will have a grand daughter to do these types of things for. lol
 
I used the same knot as show and Holly. I don't sew and this worked great for my daughters bday party last year. I made tutus for all the girls.

Yay thanks girls!!! My parents are giving her a new bed set so I'm waiting until they get it first before I go buy tulle to match. :)
 
Oh man I soooo want to make one of those for Rachel! She doesn't have a bedskirt and that would be so easy to make! I have seen a table skirt for those cheapo round tables that was make that way...there was some blingy beaded ribbon around the edge of the table too...that has been on my to-do list. Maybe I'll have to do both of them :)
 
I think those instructions are perfect. I would skip the beads unless you want to be vaccumming them up for the next 2 years. LOL
 
That's awesome!!!! I would also skip the hot-glued on beads (sounds like she only added them because they were required for the craft challenge she's participating in). I'd add some random strings of blingy interesting ribbons to fancy it up instead. If you're worried about washing it... maybe you could put a mattress pad over the fitted sheet and a sheet on top of that, so you'd only have to wash it occasionally instead of how frequently you'd have to wash it if it was the sheet she was sleeping directly on? I'd hand wash it to keep the knots from slipping.

Well I'm putting it on her box springs, so I'm not too worried about washing it really. But I think to put it on her box springs, I'm going to have to make the tulle strips longer than 6 inches. She's inheriting a new bigger bed too so I have to wait and measure everything :D

Ahh! Good idea... I didn't even think of box springs since my kids are in bunk beds. That'll definitely make the skirt longer... although, it depends on if you want the tulle to just cover the boxspring or touch the floor.
