When I purchase a kit I download all the files, PNG/PSD/TIFF and so on. But for the templates I only use the PSD files and was thinking perhaps I could delete the others to save space.

What do you do? Is there any point to keeping all the files?
Also, do you have any other tips on weeding out the unessesary files?

TIA

Thats a good question! I use to delete the PNG's and keep psd's and tif's.

First off, I'll say that I think it's great that the designers include multiple file types. Right after the download, I delete the file types I don't use. If you're super concerned about a file corrupting, you'd have a back up with another file type, but I feel like the risk of that happening is super low.

I keep my zip files and backup the full kit + zip files on 2 backup harddrives + Apple's Time Machine so I'm not too worried about corrupt files. But I think I'll go through my stash and delete the files I won't use. Save up some space for new kits ;)

For templates...
There are some programs where people can use .psd and or .tiff.
And some programs that people can only use .png. Or .page.
We add those files so everyone can buy and use what is better and you can delete the other files.
The difference between keeping .psd or .tiff is that .tiff is smaller... I keep my previews in a .tiff in case I need it again. :)
Hope that helps. :)

Just out of curiosity, why do you keep both the zip and the full kit? I've never kept the zips.

I keep the zip in case I want to make a backup on a dvd or something to put in my parents safe. So that I'll have a backup elsewher in case of fire or the likes.

I misunderstood your post, I thought you were saying you keep both the full kit and the zip saved, which would be redundant :)

I also do that, delete other files I don't need like the .page and keep the png, tiff and psd files. Oh also the zip files for back up purposes.

ZIP is not a very stable file and DVD's aren't the most stable media. I highly suggest using an offsite backup resource such as Crashplan, Backblaze, etc as your backup's backup.

another that just keeps the tiff and deletes the rest... and I agree with Jennifer - I have had a number of zips go corrupt moving them from one source to the other. :)

I used to keep them all, but now I just download the PSDs. If they are all in one folder when I DL, then I will just go in and delete the ones I don't use right away. I already have SO much space on my PC taken up by scrapbook stuff, so really can't afford to keep the ones I know I won't use. I do back up everything, so if a file went corrupt, I'd have a backup.
