I'm updating my Christmas playlist. I have all the old traditional carols by my favorite artists (ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to Pentatonix), but would love to add some contemporary tunes (by contemporary, I mean released in the last 10 years, lol). Religious or secular - what have you got?

Well I like the Christmas songs that michael buble does but then they are traditional just his versions.. are you wanting brand new songs?

Here are two Christmas albums that I really enjoy.

Wintersong by Sarah McLachlan

Barenaked Ladies Holiday (I'm going to hope they are known in your area -- but if not, rest assured they are not naked, nor in fact are they even ladies!)

<3 <3 Love that sarah mclachlan album

I haven't gone to many concerts but I did go to barenaked ladies several years ago.. they were so much fun

I don't mind traditional recommendations, it's just that I already have lots of them already, so they'd have to be really excellent or unique to replace the 5 versions I already have on my play list. I still looking for a really great version of I Heard the Bells.

Thanks for the recommendations ladies. I'm checking some of these out now.

Train's Shake Up Christmas
All of The Killers Christmas songs
Hanson's Snowed In LOLOLOLOL (corny but I still like it all these years later!)
Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer, of course! Oh wait, this song is super OLD . lol
Happy Christmas albums (1 and 2.. they are Christian bands)

Do your kids like the VeggieTales? Their Christmas album(s) are fun :)

Also, when my siblings and I were kids we listened to one CD at Christmas. Every Single Year. And we still listen to them as adults, and we make our kids listen to it too... It's the Do-Re-Mi Children's Choir. This is not modern, of course, but a great one for families :)

I love Run Run Rudolph by Luke Bryan. Also second Baby It's Cold Outside by Lady A. Merry Christmas Baby by Colbie Calliat& Brad Paisley is awesome too.

I am a Christmas CD junkie... I get a couple new CDs every year... my tastes are all over the place... haha.

These are my recent favs... I know there are a couple, but the CDs are still buried in my Christmas Decor... these are the ones that I remember off the top of my hat.

Kelly Clarkson Wrapped in Red (has classics and new originals). Christmas With Weezer (nothing original, but done in typical Weezer style). It Feels Like Christmas Time or Everything You Want for Christmas by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (has classics and new originals). The best/funniest non-classic Christmas song, I feel, is by the Ramones (Merry Christmas I Don't Want to Fight Tonight).

I just checked my Christmas Music playlist, I have way too much! 191 songs! A lot of country, if you like Country and I hook you up.

Sister Hazel has a couple good ones I have too.

Gorillaz had a free Christmas album, too. I'm not sure if it's still free (it's a couple years old), but it was good. They're one of my faves.

Oh what a good thread to stumble upon - I have a ton of Christmas music but will certainly look at some of the suggestions here....thanks!

I love the hanson snowed in CD. I've been listening to it since I was a kid, haha! Pull it out every year and just enjoy the heck out of it :)

also, it may sound weird, but fisher price has a lullaby sort of christmas cd that we have and I looooove it. If you like Enya, you'll like this CD as the singer sounds similar to Enya.

Callie Moore and her sister, Colette Butler, did two great Christmas renditions I'm absolutely obsessed with-- Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella and God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman... they top my playlist EVERY year (and yes, they're on Spotify)

I highly recommend Let it Snow Baby, Let it Reindeer by Relient K. Super fun and has some great original songs on it as well as some modern renditions of traditional stuff.

Joseph's Lullaby -- Mercy Me
