children suddenly falling frequently...

I can't tell if my kid is a clutz, or if something is unbalanced with him or what.. Any ideas? Are any of your kids frequent.. fallers? It seems like he's been falling down the stairs way more frequently than is acceptable lately. He fell down the basement stairs just now, and I realized it's happening more and more btwn those stairs and the main house stairs. I know *I* fell down the stairs a lot as a kid, because I was absolutely uncoordinated and a clutz, I mean I walked into the bathroom door pretty much every morning. So maybe he just inherited my walking skills? I'm just afraid he's going to manage to break something :[
 
He probably just had a growing spurt, or is in the process of having one. I frequently fell down the stairs as a kid and my mom always said that's the explanation given to her by the Ped.
 
I don't want to be an alarmist. However, we had a child at school who suddenly got very clumsy. Turned out to be seizure activity. If you're seriously concerned about the clumsiness, check with a doctor.
 
he's due for his yearly soon anyway.. no harm in bringing that up kim :] I'll be sure to ask them.. ty for mentioning it.
 
Also have them check his ears. He could have an inner ear disorder that is just now popping up.
 
Zach's about to hit a growth spurt. His feet have grown TWO sizes and he eats more than John does. It is INSANE. I bet that's what's going on for dude. Zach's like a puppy and is very non-graceful as he's getting used to his suddenly much bigger feet.
 
My four year old constantly trips over his feet, I did the same thing. We have big feet though.
 
My boys always get super clutzy and fall a lot when they start growing. When they have a growth spurt and shoot up, they don't know how big they are anymore so they kind of flail their legs about and fall a lot, lol
 
I'm guessing growth spurt and getting used to his new size, but I'd mention it to the ped and keep monitoring it even if the doctor says it's nothing. I'm sure that 99% of cases like this have a mundane explanation like that, but when I was a kid I had strange reaction to a cold virus and overnight started having major coordination issues. It was a crazy fluke thing, but it took months of meds and PT for me to walk and write normally again.
 
I always tell Kennedy that I cursed her by giving her the middle name Grace because she is far from graceful. She trips over her own feet all the time, runs into walls, etc. I see lots of hospital visits in our future. But I was the same way as a kid. I always make sure the Dr checks her ears when we go just to be sure it's not something inner ear...and it's not...she's just a clutz.

I actually fell up the stairs more often then down... Is that weird?

And one of my nicknames from my husband is Grace. lol. I've always got bruises on my legs that appear mysteriously. I just hit walk into stuff all the time.

This is what I was thinking. My son's always been clumsy (as a toe walker), but it got really bad when he had some inner ear issues. He ended up needing ear tubes.
 
Russ always laughs at me that I steer by deflection - I've always been a less-than-graceful walker. Connor takes after me. When he had his huge growth spurt at 12, he could not walk without tripping, falling over things, walking into walls because he just didn't know how to work his body and had to get used to it. He's still like a bull sometimes not realizing his size.

But I'd check into the inner ear thing, too. LOTS of things can be wonky if our ears aren't working correctly, and we always write it off to something else. Even nausea that we think is a stomach virus.
 
Everyone has given great advice and I was told by the pediatrician that ear problems can cause them to fall a lot. Both of my boys have had trouble with ear infections (luckily the baby, a girl, has yet to have them) and yes, they are both clumsy. Then again, like you said, I was (and still am) clumsy so it could just be a coordination thing. No harm in asking the ped though at your next visit if you are worried.
 
Thank you guys <3 I'm hoping it's just the weirdo growing issue but I will def bring up the ears at his next appointment. You guys are the best <3
Also seriously I'm so glad to be surrounded by so many other clutzy moms lol
