I'm selling my Nikon d90 because I never use it and it's going to end up getting broken when it's lying around. I'm going to get a nice little compact camera instead.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I have a Canon powershot, it's perfect for me. Has all the perks of a compact camera, but you can toy around with manual settings as well.

I have a Canon Elph. I grabbed it a few years ago to take on my honeymoon and was surprised by how much I liked it.

I have the canon G15. I love it cause I can do a lot with manual settings, but it's compact and takes good pics in Auto mode.

I never thought I'd say this but I really like the little water-proof Nikon Cool-pix that I have. It take great photos underwater but also does great for just regular day-to-day stuff. It's the AW110.

I know those new mirrorless cameras are also very popular these days, but I haven't tried one.

I second this - I actually have the G12, which they no longer sell... great camera!

I have an older mirrorless, the Olympus E-PM1. I love it! I think it's the best of both worlds. It's small enough that I can fit it in my medium size purse when I want to, and it's comfortable to carry all day when we're on vacation. I can take much better pictures with it than I can with my 5 year old Canon Powershot. I sometimes use the Powershot at places like the pool or beach, and it frustrates me because it's so slow in comparison. A few caveats about mirrorless, though I don't know if it applies to all of them or just my specific camera. I can take nice pictures on manual, but I don't like the results on auto. I also have to use the flash more than I think people with DSLRs do. I don't know if the newer generations of mirrorless cameras are more similar to DSLRs in that regard. To give you an idea of size, here's mine with the 30 mm prime lens that I keep on it 90% of the time.
