so, my baby's turning 5 at the beginning of april :crying:

i need an opinion.

she's VERY girly. i think most of you know this. lol she's very into pink/purple. glitter. boys. music. she just exudes all things 'typical' girl.

she has decided she wants this cake (thanks mom)...


would you also do like a candyland themed party (i don't do BIG themes, i just mean like plates/napkins/maybe a candy bar instead of the food we usually do) or stick with what we normally do and do the typical foods and get her just solid colored plates/napkins/etc.?
 
I love themed parties, and my girly girl turns 6 in march so I understand. I would go Candyland. It could be so much fun! :)
 
Oh - I'm totally all about the theme... ;) I think a candyland would be super fun.

Outside of the decor and cake, which follow the theme - I do the solid napkins and plates - I'm cheap that way... and 99% of the time traditional foods (usually ham dinner - average age of the people that come to kiddo's birthday is 70.) Last year was the exception, I had ham and turkey sandwiches, pre-made in deli containers to mimic plane meals since the theme was airplane.

So, I guess my answer is a hybrid of the two party styles... is what I do...
 
I would do a Candyland-themed party because candy is cheap and easy to decorate with. If it were something harder, prolly not.
 
Okay - so I'm brining out my inner me and hoping you appreciate my honesty. I don't think Candyland as a theme is very M from everything I've read about her. Plus to me it's kind of baby for a 5 yo. The cake is cool, but I bet if you found another cool cake that fit a theme that is more her it would be better all around.

Now, on the flip side - if you did want to go candyland you could totally do it with plain decorations in a rainbow of colors. Have lots of candy, maybe play life sided Candyland as your game? Didn't Sara's daughter Abby have a Candyland birthday.

I figured you were going to host a rock concert at your house or something. :P
 
You could just stick with candy & candyelated items and colors. Aida had a Disney princess cake last year, so for her party (just with fam) we had her favorite foods....I let her pick some matching plates, napkins and cups at the dollar store. I got some girly party hats that were pink like the castle on the cake and some balloons and a couple of banners.

I just figure why waste money on all those little decorations (that you get rid of later) when all she wants is the cake and some gifts. I think as long as you have things she loves, she will love it no matter what.
 
I know you are anti-crazy-theme-party-nonsense but these "lollipops" kinda rock my world...

We did the candyland thing last year, my girls have birthdays 4 days apart, so they choose together. I did solid/polkadot plates/napkins/cups, did rainbow colors and decor, not too over the top, but lots of fun.
We actually borrowed a rug sized version of the game and had a couple of different regular games set up as well as a Dora version.

haaaaa I was just coming here to tell you that Amanda did one last year so ask her :D but I think the theme is fun.....plus you could fill different clear jars with different candies and let the kids make there goodie bags from the candy jars :)

juli, i have TRIED to convince her she doesn't want that cake. she is not budging. lol she said she wants hello kitty decorations with that cake. sorry. we aren't mixing shizz. lol
