How long have you been digi-scrapping? And how did you come about to discover it?

For me I wanted to make a book recording my daughter's life for her 16th birthday. I had no clue there was this huge industry behind what I was going to do LOL. I had a program that let me do really basic stuff but it was pretty bad and froze a lot. So I gravitated towards Paint Shop Pro. Mostly because it was cheaper and I had already used it a little for photo editing. Then I was hooked. I never did finish that book for my daughter exactly how I had planned it but I have done 100's of layouts since I started and that was just over 5 years ago now (Feb. 2007 for me).

So share your story of how you started and when :)
 
I started paper scrapping in 2000 in order to save the memories from a Disney trip we took in December (started scrapping before we went, though). In 2004, I decided to give digital a try. This was right as digital was becoming more popular, but was still fairly small. Within a month I had given away or sold almost all my paper supplies and went completely digital.

Ironically, I'm going to do Project Life this summer and I'm going back to paper. It will probably be hybrid because I can't imagine not using my computer to do some of it, but it will be using the paper supplies mostly.

Anyway, in between, I've done hundreds if not thousands of layouts, been on many creative teams and worked with tons of great designers. I feel very blessed to have been there to watch digital scrapbooking grow and develop.
 
I was on the Design Team for a paper-scrapping kit club called Mosh Posh in late '06 or early '07 (I think Celeste was on the DT there, too!). Anyways, a fellow DT member for Mosh Posh, Linda Barber, released a digital kit one month. I can't remember if I was only a member or on the team yet or not, but I made 2 pages with her kit. I'm pretty sure I didn't buy it... gee... my memory of it is foggy!!! LOL! :p So I tried it out. I had Photoshop on my computer and knew how to use it well, so it was not a difficult adjustment but I didn't get the same "feeling" digi-scrapping. I still preferred paper scrapbooking until 2 years ago when I got back into it. :)
 
I started in May of 2006. I was pregnant with my son and on a baby message board where some of the girls digi-scrapped. I thought their pages looked so much better than my paper pages. I got PSP for Christmas in 2005, but needed to upgrade my computer first. I got it upgraded and started scrapping that May. I got PSP cause all the girls on that board used it, so I mistakenly thought it was the most commonly used program.
 
I started digi in Feb '07 too :)

I was dabbled in paper scrapping. I enjoyed shopping for paper supplies, but I didn't enjoy using them! LOL now those things are part of Rachel's arts and crafts supplies. Anyway, I was still dabbling in paper, and on the hunt for rodeo/western supplies. I did a Google search and it led me to Scrappy Pony's blog. I liked the scrap stuff she had, only to discover it was digital...who knew?! I was intrigued, so the hubster went out and bought Scrapbook Factory Deluxe for me (we had no clue about PSE or PSP at that point).

Anyhoo, Heather (aka Scrappy Pony) was blogging about joining a soon-to-be-opening store, Seaside Scraps. I went over and signed up. SSS became my home store. That's where I met Sharon Kay (she was head CT); I also became good friends with Rebecca Myers, one of the owners. One of THE best parts of digi would have to be friends I've made.

When SSS shut down in 2008, I drifted over to DST and hung out for awhile, before finally finding my way over here. I think Eva's move over here is what finally brought me over here for good...she had RAK'd me with a kit right as she was moving and I came over here to post a layout, and then never left :)
 
I started in the summer of 2005. I was a sig maker on a ttc/pregnancy/parenting board & a buddy of mine was looking for a tutorial for something & came across Digital Scrapbook Place's tutorials. Within a couple weeks all 8 of us had made our first pages. I'm the only one still doing it though.

I was never a paper scrapper. Scissors are my nemesis.

I started paper scrapping not long after I got married in '98. In late 2000 I started going to crops and such at the local scrapbook store. I really got in to it at that point.

December 2004... we were in the process of moving. All my scrapbook supplies were at the old house and I was at the new house. We were trying to move with only a 2 door Cavalier and had a 2 year old to boot. The process was slow and tedious and I had no idea when I would get my supplies. I had taken some cute Christmas pictures of my daughter and wanted to do something crafty with them. A friend on my paper scrapping board (which I'm still a part of after all these years... joined before my daughter was born!) posted a link to Gina Cabrera's Celebrate kit. It was a free download that week (month?). I had Photoshop on my computer but had never even opened it, it was just there. I downloaded the kit and started playing with it. I made the layout posted in the 'cringe-worthy' thread. The next day I downloaded more stuff and made a few more layouts. I swore I would only use digital for a project here and there but I was hooked. It was so much easier than trying to pry scissors out of my 2 year old's hands. ;)
 
Oh, and I used to hang out at RAK scraps and Scrapbook Bytes back in the day... I was on my first CT back then, for Amy Teets. I took an extended break when I was pregnant with my son (got pregnant with him within 6 months of starting to scrap digitally) because I had pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome and had a difficult time using my hands. I went back to it a few months after he was born (when the CTS went away) and the first site I found was ScrapMommies. That was in January of 2006. In April of 2006 I got on to the site CT there and later became a designer at the store. ScrapMommies was my first real digital home. I loved that place! Traci was an awesome store owner, though I have to admit, somewhat of a slave driver. ;) She kept us CT gals BUSY! I loved every minute of it though. When ScrapMommies closed a friend (Amber1279) told me about Elemental Scraps and I made my way over there. They happened to be having a designer call and I got accepted there. I designed there until the store closed its doors at the end of 2010. In 2011 I floundered a little, did a stint at Funky Playground and then decided to take a break from designing... So there you have it, my history of scrapping/designing rolled in to a neat little ball. :)
 
Stacy I started with that program too. I HATED it!! It slowed my computer so much and would just randomly freeze. Never had that issue once I moved to PSP
 
I was on your team over at Elemental Scraps Sherri and on the promo team. I still have a lot of your kits too. I think my favorite is the horse ones you made (I think there were two).
 
I started as a paper scrapper back in 2001. I enjoyed it, but hated the mess and the cost. In 2002 I started a genealogy site and got into making web pages, which was my first introduction to using PSP. I did 'front pages" for websites for others for a while and one of the ladies I did a page for asked me if I scrapped because the graphic I did for her reminded her of a scrap page. When I said I did, she asked what program I used and I was like "huh?" When she explained digi scrapping to me, I went looking on line for some info and was hooked. It was a big learning curve for me because I only had PSP and really couldn't afford to get anything else at the time, but I managed to make it work. I think that was in 2005, but can't be sure. Anyway, I did a lot of freebie downloading and even created my own supplies in the beginning, but then I discovered some real designers and started buying things and my scrapping improved tremendously. :)
 
Scrapbooking since 2006, and I've been digital all the way. I'm NOT craftsy at all. I barely passed Home Ec. So I'm really envious of hybrid scrappers and crafters :wub: And I started scrapping because I wanted a creative outlet that was NOT feature writing or related to magazine work (my job at the time). The whole memory-keeping aspect came much later.

It was Aggie who got me hooked, what with her gorgeous pages and--at the time--cutie-pie bebbie girl newborn (who is still cute, btw) :)

Aww... I know just the two kits you are talking about. I am still pretty fond of those two (it helps that my girl still LOVES horses) One was Ride, Baby Ride and the other Dixie. :)

:D I like blue/orange together. Like I said at the chat last night, orange isn't a huge favorite of mine but there are a few colors I like it with. :)

There are a few others around here who were on my CT at one point, Tanyia being one. :) It is so awesome to still see you guys scrapping!
 
Yes those are them. They still make me very happy when I see them. See I had plans when getting them to go horse back riding with my husband and it is the reason I still have them. I kinda hope someday he will be able to handle it. He has never been on a horse before. I have but it has been a long time. Well there are places you can go horseback riding down here were we live. So maybe one day I will get to go. Also want to go to Payne's Prairie where wild horses still roam about two hours north of where I am now. It is supposed to be pretty easy to spot the wild horses.
 
I started paper scrapping in 2003 to record our wedding - and I still do paper scrapping in addition to digi. Then I discovered Scrapbook Bytes in 2005 and got hooked there. I think I was using PSE 2! I also did a couple designing stints at Do It Digi and Polka Dot Potato (and also did admin work there). I've been on a few CT's, but lately I am loving the less-pressure scrapping on my own...not to say I won't ever get back onto CT's again, but I am liking the break!
 
After DS1 was born, I was trying to find a way to remember what was happening in the photos I was taking of him. For 6 months I used LOOOONG photo names and had them printed on the back of the photos, but that wasn't cutting it. So I decided to give paper scrapping a try. I did 1 LO that was 75% paper with digi photos and titlework. By LO #2 I basically did it all on the computer, cut the parts out, and glued it all together. So by LO #3 I realized I was going to be a digiscrapper and joined Scrapbook Bytes in March 2004. I can't believe it has been 8 years already!

I started out with PhotoImpact and used that for years. It wasn't a well known program, but its capabilities were somewhere between PSE and PS. Its one big drawback was how hard it was to use templates. I finally switched to PS about 3 years ago.

My first digi home was Scrapbook Bytes. I took a 6-month scrapping break when DS2 was born, and when I started again I landed at DST and spent time [shopping] all around the digiverse. When fantasy LOs started to dominate DST, I decided it was time to start posting and participating in challenges here, and SSD quickly became my digi home.
 
My mom actually got me started digi scrapping back in 2003. She was taking a PS course and told me about a digital scrapbook site. She was a paper scrapper but I never really got into it- didn't have kids at the time so I didnt have anything to scrap. Oh I did try to paper scrap my wedding photos but I just didnt want to spend the money on all of the supplies.

DH had a copy of PS for work so I got a book and tried to teach myself but it was so frustrating. I took some classes online and just fudged my way through. Maybe that is why there are some basic things in PS that I should know how to do but just dont.

My first digi home was Scrapbook Bytes and then when Digital Scrapbook Place opened up I moved over there and was there for 5 years. But I just felt their style and my style were not the same so I decided to make my new home over here!

Anyways, what is so funny is that my mom never did start digi scrapping and I took off with it. Now she is coming to ME and asking me how to do things!

Amber that was my first digi home as well. Then I kinda migrated over to DST. After a digi-scrapping race challenge held here at SSD and the Stand Up and Scrap here as well I was hooked. I think I finally made the move over to here after Traci started here. My first purchase I *think* was Paging Miss Betty from Traci right after she moved over here. I did not start getting active in the forums for a little while though. Just kinda lurked here and there.
 
Sherri you were one of my first creative teams I think. I remember messaging you to ask if you were looking and you asked if I was interested in joining your team because you were going to be having a call and I said YES!! LOL
 
I started by way of cardmaking in the early 2000's then became a scrapbooker through CM, then in 2006 went to a paper sb retreat in Vancouver, Canada then became a digi scrapper shortly after. Roamed around another digi site for a couple of years from 06-08 then in August 08 became a member here and probably a year to 18 months ago made this my digi home full time
 
My step daughter got into paper scrapping when she moved to California. Hardly anyone does scrapbooking in the UK but I saw her pages and thought I would have a go.

Started paper scrapping in 2007 and started posting on scrapbook.com in 2010.

Saw Cindy's and Nikki's pages in the gallery there and loved them. Investigated where they got their ' stuff ' from and found out about digi scrapping that way.

Went over to digi scrapping in March 2011. Have always been at SSD and love that everyone is so helpful and friendly.
 
I started paper scrapping around 1998, and finished many books using mostly Creative Memories. At some point I was noticing digital scrap stuff here and there and was mainly buying kits for a couple of years. But it really started for me in January of 2010. My mom had just given me a laptop for Christmas, and I was busy nursing a two month old. So I set up a tv table next to my nursing chair and would digital scrap while I nursed Alex. It kept me from feeling down in the dumps about being so isolated while breast feeding, and I am still so thankful for that laptop my mom gave me. In the first month my home was mainly Weeds and wildflowers, but I soon discovered The Sweet Shoppe and was so excited about the great selection here. Heather Roselli was my first favorite designer when I started. My first page in the gallery was done with her Chocolate cravings kit!
 
Started paper scrapping in 2004, then introduced to digital in 2007, if my memory serves me correctly. Since I still have alot of my crafts, I do dabble in hybrid.
 
I started paper scrapping around November 2004 but after a few years I got tired of spending so much money on papers and stuff to use. So I started making cards instead. Somewhere in 2008 I decided to take an online class by Jessica Sprague which made me really curious of actual digiscrapping. But I didn't like the results very much. Around that same time I came on the SSD Forum and gallery and saw how you could do it also....Interesting! However...it took me untill the end of 2010 before I actually stopped paperscrapping and started doing layouts again. That's when I realized why I started scrapbooking in the first place. I no longer make cards, and all my supplies from paperscrapping are still around me, but I haven't used them in ages. I am very pleased to be part of the big SSD family we are...and I hardly shop anywhere else. Here's where I like the kits most!

And now that my baby is coming, I can't even think of stopping this. Digiscrapping is so much faster than paperscrapping and it's so much easier to save and shut down the computer. Take it wherever you go...and re-use your kits! I took me a while to admit, but I really love digiscrapping. :p
