A reason I love the FWP kits...

I love being challenged. I kind of have a 'type' of kit that I gravitate towards. Some things I find adorable but they are just out of my comfort zone so I shy away from them. Back when I was on creative teams I was challenged to scrap with all sorts of things that I might not have chosen otherwise and I pretty much always loved the result. Since I'm not on any teams now I haven't had to challenge myself to step outside of my comfort zone as far as kits go (technique and stuff, yes, but not kits). The FWP kit is such a great way to get me doing just that. This month I got Libby's 'her name was lola' kit when I made my other purchases. I have to admit, the kit intimidated me. It isn't my typical style and I almost deleted it out of my cart (yes, even though it was free) because I just wasn't sure I would use it (basically, if I can't 'see' the layout in my mind before getting the kit, I don't get the kit). I'm glad now I didn't. :) I was looking to scrap a picture of my daughter from her birthday and I wanted to use something SSD since I am trying to get a few more portfolio points. I was frantically going through my folders looking for a kit that would work and I realized the colors in Libby's went well with my photo. I decided to give it a try and I love the result. :)

Here's my pretty new layout of my newly 10 year old daughter. :)

Awwww! I'm so glad that you were able to use the kit afterall! Your layout is beautiful. I'm with you that sometimes it's fun to be challenged. That's one thing I miss about when I used to do CT work before I became a designer.

Thanks for sharing this! You really did an amazing job with the kit... especially a kit that was so far out of your comfort zone! :)
 
beautiful layout... I've loved every single one of the FWP kits... one of many awesome changes SSD made this year with the grand re-opening :wub:

Libby definitely put out a gorgeous kit. :) It caught my eye right away but I just couldn't picture a layout in my head and usually I can when I see a kit. My layouts never turn out exactly like what I picture when I first see it but it is how I gauge whether or not I will likely use a kit, you know?

There was another FWP kit that I kind of felt the same way about. That was 'Monsterific'. I thought 'oh how cute!' and then asked myself how in the world I would use it. I ended up with a layout that I really like :)

Both of those pages are fantastic...always loved your layouts (so glad to see you scrapping again!) And man, Caitrin is gorgeous and so grown up now!
