Hello amazing designers.
I have a few questions, out of curiosity. These are things I always think of and finally decided to ask, if that's okay.

1. How long does it take for you to make a kit, bundle or template pack?
2. Where do you start? Colors? Theme? Go with the flow?
3. What software do you use for designing?
4. How do you keep track of the products you make?
5. Do you use any kind of applications like mind mapping? Or do you write down your ideas?
6. Where do you store the finished products you sell?
7. Do you exchange products with other designers?
8. Do you have a list of future products to make, or decide on the spot?
9. When it's time to retire a product, what makes you decide which ones to put up for retirement?
10. Are you working on one project at a time, or multiple?

Thank you in advance for your answers. I always love reading more about you.

1. How long does it take for you to make a kit, bundle or template pack? For me, the average large bundle takes me a couple of weeks to create.
2. Where do you start? Colors? Theme? Go with the flow?
I always start with a theme - I try to finalize my colors pretty early in.

3. What software do you use for designing?
Photoshop
4. How do you keep track of the products you make?
Oh heck, sometimes I forget I made a product a month after loading it to the store - but usually I just know. I keep them organized by year on an external drive.
5. Do you use any kind of applications like mind mapping? Or do you write down your ideas?I have idea files and go to them to start kits; I might have notes typed in photoshop or a notebook beside me.
6. Where do you store the finished products you sell?external portable hard drive
7. Do you exchange products with other designers?I haven't done so in a long time but it can be fun to do
8. Do you have a list of future products to make, or decide on the spot?I have an enormous list but go with what works for my brain at the time. If I'm not in the mood for a certain kit them, it takes a lot longer to design it.
9. When it's time to retire a product, what makes you decide which ones to put up for retirement? The factors I look at are the sales of the product in the past year along with how current the kit feels to me or does it no longer represent me.
10. Are you working on one project at a time, or multiple?More or less one collection at a time.

1. How long does it take for you to make a kit, bundle or template pack? It really depends on the type of templates I'm designing, but a couple of days.
2. Where do you start? Colors? Theme? Go with the flow? I go with the flow. I have my own template colors unless I'm collaborating with another designer.
3. What software do you use for designing? PSCC
4. How do you keep track of the products you make? I just have them in a folder. I started trying to use an Excel sheet but then decided I'd rather design more than do it. :D
5. Do you use any kind of applications like mind mapping? Or do you write down your ideas? I usually write my ideas on Post-It notes that get moved around from my monitors to my planner.
6. Where do you store the finished products you sell? EHDs
7. Do you exchange products with other designers? Yes
8. Do you have a list of future products to make, or decide on the spot? I have a list.
9. When it's time to retire a product, what makes you decide which ones to put up for retirement? I decide by sales and also if I think the set is getting dated.
10. Are you working on one project at a time, or multiple? Both. I prefer to work on one project at a time, but for our recent DSD, I was working on 8 template sets at the same time!

1. How long does it take for you to make a kit, bundle or template pack? I work full time and can only design in the evenings and on weekends, so it usually takes me at least two weeks to make a bundle. Lately it has been taking longer because more of my time is being spent on other things like visiting with my grandbaby. I can do templates in a few days, but then again, my templates ten to be on the simple side.
2. Where do you start? Colors? Theme? Go with the flow? LOL, nothing about me is go with the flow. I always start with the theme and go from there.
3. What software do you use for designing? Photoshop
4. How do you keep track of the products you make? I don't think I actually keep track of them, per se. I just know what I have made.
5. Do you use any kind of applications like mind mapping? Or do you write down your ideas? I use Pinterest and create boards for my ideas, then pin colors and inspiration to them. I will create one anytime I get an idea, so I have a good number of them.
6. Where do you store the finished products you sell? I have a LJS Designs folder in my dropbox for active products and then another for retired products.
7. Do you exchange products with other designers? Not really. I used to do coupon exchanges at Christmas, but not everyone on my team could use them, which felt unfair, so I stopped.
8. Do you have a list of future products to make, or decide on the spot? I usually look at my boards to decide what to make next unless I have had an idea that I have to do right then.
9. When it's time to retire a product, what makes you decide which ones to put up for retirement? I go through my shop and pick out the kits that don't represent me well any longer to retire. My sales numbers don't really enter into it for me.
10. Are you working on one project at a time, or multiple? Recently I started working on more than one project at a time and quickly came to the realization that it didn't work for me. I feel like I got less done when my attention was divided between things. And it didn't feel like my best work.

I keep meaning to reply to this! So here goes...

1. How long does it take for you to make a kit, bundle or template pack? Anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks, typically. If I lose all sense of self-preservation, under 24 hours.
2. Where do you start? Colors? Theme? Go with the flow? Typically theme, then colors.
3. What software do you use for designing? Photoshop, Illustrator and Procreate
4. How do you keep track of the products you make? I use Notion to organize my to-dos for releases and sort my products with lots of labels and filters. Otherwise, I have a file system for my kits, native files, layouts and marketing images.
5. Do you use any kind of applications like mind mapping? Or do you write down your ideas? I have a few running lists of different ideas in Notion.
6. Where do you store the finished products you sell? Hard drives and backup services.
7. Do you exchange products with other designers? No exchange, but I love collabing.
8. Do you have a list of future products to make, or decide on the spot? I have a list! I try to plan out theme ideas but sometimes I don't follow it. :P
9. When it's time to retire a product, what makes you decide which ones to put up for retirement? Lack of sales, stylistic changes, topic no longer relevant
10. Are you working on one project at a time, or multiple? Typically multiple, like I might be working on a solo kit, a collab and a store collab contribution.

Wow, so interesting to read all your answers. Thank you so much!! I appreciate it, for taking the time to answer.
As I wrote before, I love reading about your whole process and it's a pleasure to get to know you better. Keep up the amazing creative work you do!!

1. How long does it take for you to make a kit, bundle or template pack?
It all depends on the type of kit it is or if it's for a big event. I used to be able to release weekly but that has gotten harder these days. Sometimes if i'm really inspired I can do something in a few days (but that's working into the late hours) usually though 1-2 weeks.

2. Where do you start? Colors? Theme? Go with the flow?
I usually start with some sort of theme or idea. Choosing colours is always the hardest for me and can become quite time consuming and frustrating!
3. What software do you use for designing?
I use photoshop/illustrator/procreate primarily

4. How do you keep track of the products you make?
I don't these days.. haha. I have found kits on pinterest that I don't even remember making.

5. Do you use any kind of applications like mind mapping? Or do you write down your ideas?
I write down my idea in my notes on my computer and I'll make pinterest/mood boards

6. Where do you store the finished products you sell?
On externals/dropbox/backblaze

7. Do you exchange products with other designers?
I don't really scrap anymore :(

8. Do you have a list of future products to make, or decide on the spot?
I have ideas and random thoughts. I plan the big weeks like dsd/black friday in advance but on "normal" weeks that's often decided a bit more on the spot
9. When it's time to retire a product, what makes you decide which ones to put up for retirement?
Mostly if I hate it or if i feel it doesn't really reflect who i am as a designer

10. Are you working on one project at a time, or multiple?
Sort of in between
