Default Are you a Thread Killer? Let the Game Begin!

Edited: While the game is over, please feel free to continue the thread and get to know ever yone! Thanks for playing along!

I want to play a new game - and the loser wins!!!

We're going to have this thread - everyone posts to it. And once the thread goes dead for 3 full days from the last post (that's 72 hrs after the last post), that person wins a $5.00 GC to my store!

The rule: You may post whatever you'd like, but please make it count..not just 'bump' or 'i'm adding, etc.' Do a journaling quote, or a link to an awesome recipe, or something romantic your hubby did for you last week, etc.

Ready - Steady - GO!

I have not watched a single HP movie. I want to wait until they are all out on video and have a HP marathon on my couch with lots of Dr. Pepper, Hot Tamales and popcorn. Oh and with my snuggie.

I went to the doctor yesterday for this nasty rash on my arm that was spreading to everywhere else. Guess what it was from? IRISES!!! I've never heard of such a thing! But she gave me a shot of prednisone & a Rx for it too in pill-form. It gives me a headache. I think. It's either that or the nasty heat & humidity.

Traci, I ALWAYS have imaginary fights. And if you lose at your own imaginary fight, you might have a problem :P

I'm really trying to enjoy this miracle of life thing I've got going on right now, but I am so.freaking.tired of feeling sick all day long. I'm super grateful for the zofran and to no longer be puking all day, but this is exhausting.

I've totally lost my scrap mojo and am seriously getting depressed about it. I've finished about 2 LOs in 3 weeks and I'm sad

Heather, have you read The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls?

I had the world's worst Chicago dog from Sonic today - bottom bun was hard, top bun was really soggy..but it's too darned hot to take it back and demand my money back. So I just ate the dog. and am still hungry. *sigh*

ummm... Sonic is not the place for a Chicago dog

when we thought we were going to be moving to Dallas we had said that we were going to have Portillos delivered for Mark's birthday every year... they make the best Chicago dogs.. and they deliver

No - it's not, but when you're all cranky, still grieving, hot from water park play, and a load full of groceries, and it's only $2 - you take the hit on the 'real food' chin and get something quick and easy LOL Besides..the Route 44 sweet teas were what we were REALLY going for LOL

I LOVE Sonic Happy hour. MMM cherry diet coke. Sometimes I hate living In The Middle Of Nowhere. It's the only fast food out here! I have to drive 20 minutes for a grocery store that isn't the Super Save, who charges $7 for a package of bacon. I don't miss suburbia but I do miss convenience.

Oh, and Fort Worth peeps, check this place out. I am most def taking El for a field trip this fall! You can call ahead and let the kids get a tour!

http://www.mansionfarms.com/

They have a CSA but I live on an acre and have my own garden. Of course, it's dying a slow death because of the drought. We're thinking of getting chickens this fall, cause I'm not paying $4 for a dozen chicken eggs!

Haha ... She wants it, she just doesn't want to reead what she has already read. Kinda lazy on her part. I could not imagine not having a licence. Saves you a lot of money!! HEhe!!

Maybe in the US it's more necessary than here really. I can do with public transport and walking very nicely. If I need to go to a place where public transport fails (and this happens more in Luxembourg than in Bratislava), I ask someone to drive me - since it's usually IKEA and such, it makes sense since normally I wouldn't be able to carry my purchase alone anyway (furniture boxes are kind of too heavy for one woman). If I need to get home at night, I take a taxi. I'm pretty sure that what I spend on taxis in a year doesn't even come near to the cost of petrol (and petrol is much more expensive here). I can see the point of a car - the independence and such, but I don't see the need for it in my life really.

If your daughter wants to drive, she needs a licence - she will need to learn. She will find it out soon enough. IMHO, 16 is too young for driving, but nobody is interested in my opinion anyway. ;-)

A lot of this might be where you're from, you're right. One of my sisters and my brother in Germany neither one drive, because both take public transport everywhere. When I was in Germany, we mostly took public transport, too... we even took the train from Hamburg to Berlin instead of a car. The only time we even took a car was once, when they took me to the airport and we got stuck on the Autobahn for 5 hours because of a car accident ahead of us that shut down the whole road. Her parents were big Tina Turner fans even though they don't understand the words, so we listened to their Tina Turner CD on repeat for the entire 5 hours. :dies: But in almost a month, to only be in a car once is very strange for me... I started driving when I was 14 (we could get a learning permit here where we had to drive with parents), and could drive independently to/from school and work at 15 (with a different special permit), and totally independently everywhere at 16. I've never been in an accident, never gotten pulled over by a cop, nothing. For me, it is cheaper- we have only one public transport option, and it only comes to my town once every week, and then it's usually not going anywhere I go, plus I would have to drive to get to the stop. But, petrol is MUCH more expensive there (as much as 4-5 times as much as here), so it is REALLY easier to not drive there, I think.

You summed it up very accurately. The price of petrol is very different here. Distances are much shorter. Public transport is better (AND employers can make contracts with the city to have their employees to travel for free in the city as an incentive to make people use public transport rather than drive - which mine does, so for me city transport is very cheap indeed). The independence of driving is rather cool, I admit, and responsibility is not ageelated, so we both are right in a way. :-) And loads of people I know think I'm a weirdo for not driving, heh. I think I only know about 3 people who don't have a licence. :-)

When I moved here 10 years ago what really got me was that you cannot drive until 18 but you can drink alcohol at 16. My 38 yr old friend just finally got her license this year.

But you are right, public transportation is much better here than in the US. Like Jenni I was driving well before I turned 16. We lived 50 miles outside of town in the desert in a literal ghost town. Needless to say there was no form of public or even school bus transportation available.
