Default A Peek Behind the Curtain?

I dabbled with design in a past life and I loved it, but it became overwhelming at times and the pace is break-neck!

So naturally I am always curious to see how you amazing designers have managed to keep the quality kits and templates coming for literally decades- not to mention the addition of social media, marketing, games and challenges, AND having an actual life outside of scrapbooking / designing! It's truly impressive.

I took Traci Reed's Design Star class about a century ago, and I so enjoy Watch Cheryl Scrap but I would love to see more designers/scrappers do a peek behind the curtain to showcase their process of how a kit goes from an idea to a finished product, and then how the Sugar Babes make that kit come to life week after week, kit after kit.

I'm sure it's a big ask, you are obviously busy as it is, but maybe something to ponder down the road?

I would love to share something like this. Perhaps a week-in-the-life type of video or blog post?

First, thank you so much for watching my videos! I'd love to hear any feedback you have on my channel and/or videos. If you don't want to post publicly, shoot me a PM here!

Second, I would love to see the SugarBabes recording their process, too! For that matter, I'd love for our community of scrappers to share as well. It **IS** a bit of an extra step, from having to record, edit, render, and upload, and that's on top of posting your layout in all the places.

Third, if you've seen any other digiscrappers that are regularly posting scrapbooking layout videos on YouTube, let me know! I love to support fellow scrappers. Right now, I have a bunch of traditional paper scrappers that provide so much inspiration and encouragement, but I'd love to see the digiscrapping area of YouTube grow!

That would be so fun! I’m partial to the video idea, but I know it’s a lot of work. Could be a fun one-time project though!

I have a couple of thoughts to share, if you’d like to hear them! I’ll PM you.

Do you have an advice for people who would like to get started? Programs to use for capture and editing?

I hadn’t thought much about it, but you’re right I don’t see much on YouTube in the way of digital scrapbooking. I follow plenty of digital artists who draw in programs like Procreate though. Digiscrapping is a pretty niche market which has it’s pros and cons.

I'm also a member of a forum dedicated to using Paint Shop Pro for scrapbooking. As a paid member, I have access to lots of tutorials and videos by the site owner. In this area, she has had a "Build A Kit" workshop lasting 8 to 10 weeks. This year is the 3rd year.

I participated in the first 2 years and I immediately realized how much work the designers do for their (some huge!) kits. Made me appreciate them so much more especially the talent some of them have. Believe me, my kits are very basic.

I do agree that YouTube is lacking on digital scrapbooking videos. I do get a lot of other paper craft videos suggested for me. And, the videos on software are geared towards photo manipulation, not scrapbooking. I have 2 subs for digital scrapbooking. Cheryl and another one about using Affinity to do digital layouts.

Absolutely! I'd love your feedback!

I do have advice for recording and editing. There are lots of options out there, but I'm keeping it very simple. I can make a little video about that!

What an inspiring post, thank you for your words. There really is a lot involved in making a kit, research and techniques that are always evolving so that we can bring quality elements that bring realism to digital pages.

This year, in a conversation with my creative team, they said the same thing about having few videos that teach scrapbooking for beginners. My goal this year is to be able to bring one video per month and you can see them on my blog and on my VIP Facebook page. By the way, I love sharing my creative process in the Facebook group. Who knows, maybe you can join us.

❤️ More details

Exactly... plus after those 3 hours there is just half a page done. Two days later most has been changed and still not sure if I like the result...
Or, sometimes there are those days that everything goes so fluent that the perfect page is done in 30 to 60 minutes, everything falls in place just as you imagined it.

LOL!! This would so be me! I am all over the place all the time. I designed for a bit YEARS ago and I was very ADD on that process too...I get distracted easily which is why I used to scrap/design after the kids went to bed bc the world was mostly sleeping too and there were less distractions. Now I am in bed by 9 most nights. Love the idea of the videos...it is fun to see others processes.

should I add that nine times out of ten I go back to the original paper.....

Some times I can do a layout in an hour, some days it takes me hours. You would never know as I think I scrap pretty simple pages, lol.

Glad some of you can relate and that I made you giggle

Is there a place here in the forum for the designers to link to different videos they have done? That would be great for learning new techniques or trying new techniques too! Maybe tieing one a month into the challenges? I know way back when I had one saved on how to do torn paper (without a template...shocker!) But I have no idea where it is now! And I would love to relearn how to do this! I know we have a member here who, at least in the past, has enjoyed doing some tutorial videos. Not sure if she still does.

It would be a fun place to look up some new videos to watch and learn from!

I'm loving the comments here! The process can vary depending on the creativity of the day, and this makes digital scrapbooking very useful since we can change everything without tearing or peeling anything off.

I couldn't link my YouTube videos here on the forum. If anyone knows how, I'd love some help. I've been making one video a month to encourage new people to discover scrapbooking, and I’m still sharing tips for beginners. I love recording videos, but I don’t have much time. My goal is to create one every month and share useful tips and Photoshop shortcuts.

What would you like to learn?

Do any of your have a good tutorial or know of one, for torn paper edges? I found a couple on Pinterest, but if one of you have or know of one, I would love to see it!

Hi Dawn,
I love digitalscrapbook.com they have lots of tutorials. They have a good torn paper one at https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/for...-edge-tutorial
You have to join, it's free and I think you get 5 downloads a day. So you can get some of the torn pieces they use. Good luck, I can't wait to see what you make.
