Just finished scanning
Negatives from 2001!!
ROFL! Yeah... I wish I was done scanning everything, but I'm working on making a dent! How is your scanning going? Are you scanning?

Enjoy reliving the memories while doing it!
I have most of mine done. The ones not done I'm not sure I'm going to do since they are of my previous 2 dogs and I printed/scrapped most of the photos in traditional books. |

Congrats on having most of yours done! I still have to do 1987 to 2000 and 2002 to 2005. PLUS negatives that I saved from my mom throwing away from my childhood and my grandparents negatives. lol! It's a process!

Keep at it! You'll be glad that you did. I did mine a long time ago, but there might be more floating around the family.

I did send a bunch of negatives out to be scanned about 10 to 12 years ago. A lot of those were from the 60's. That saved me a lot of work. But I did buy a small negative scanner within the last 7 years to scan the rest of my negatives. I also started scanning photos in the early 2000's as I took photos out of the old albums I had since they were falling apart. I have 2 plastic cases full of organized photos and thankfully most have been scanned either from photos or negatives. A lot of photos were in albums my mom put together of my childhood so no negatives. I scanned the photos then put them in good CM albums. That covered 1955 to 1974. My mom was a scrapper before it was a thing

It's been an on-going (read: taking FOREVER! ) process for me. Thanks, Steph! Quote:
I scanned a bunch with a small negative scanner, but the quality was so poor that I'm having to re-do them. Live & learn. lol

The plus for that company was also that they could scan some of my negatives from the 60's and other odd sizes that personal scanners could not handle at that time. |

Just curious about what scanners y'all both found exceptional in getting good digital copies.

I also have this flatbed scanner. You can put more than 1 photo on it and it will scan them as individual photos. The company I used that did a decent job on a large number of negatives was ScanDigital out of Indiana. |

I use an Epson Perfection V600. It's a flatbed scanner and can do negatives and pictures. I haven't had much luck with smaller negative scanners. With this scanner I can change the resolution it's scanning to be higher or lower. It can scan 2 35mm strips at a time. It also can scan different size negatives. Or several photos at a time.

My negative scanner works for scrap pages, which is all I ask of it. But, I had to color correct most of them, because it's slightly green toned. Lightroom made that easy luckily! So, I don't recommend it necessarily, but sometimes the scanner you are willing to use is the best one.

I went on a scanning binge a few years ago and used an Epson scanner which was great for slides and prints. I no longer have a dedicated scanner but now need to scan a large number of heritage photos so will have to see how my all in one printer manages for photos.
I still have DH's slides to scan but may end up sending them away. Did ScanDigital do any color corrections for you?

But I will say that the scans will only be as good as the negatives. If there are any imperfections on them, the scans will have them as well. They didn't correct small scratches but I could easily fix those myself. |
