Default Kansas/Missouri/Iowa girls

Stay safe. It looks like another tornado outbreak could hit us tomorrow.

Ugh all this crazy weather has me nervous! I'm impatiently waiting for my girls to get home from school, they only have a 1/2 day today so they should be home in less than 1/2 an hour. I've been keeping an eye on the weather channel all morning, the rain and hail don't really bother me but the fact that they are saying we are high risk here in Wichita for a tornado does! We don't have a basement, so we either go to our neighbor friends across the street or down to my DH's grandmother's house so I'm thinking about getting our important stuff together just in case we have to take shelter!

I'm nervous, too, Shawna. Jeff has an appointment at WSU tonight at 5, and I *really* want to call and reschedule it. We do have a basement, so if you need a place to go, load up and come over!

My girls are home now so that's a sigh of relief for me, Rob's school has a full day today so he probably won't be home til close to 5 though. I'm pretty sure his school has a safe area for everyone to go if anything does happen during the day though.

I'm at school in Lenexa until 5, and the school doesn't have a basement. I'm hoping to rush home after school gets out, because at least home has a basement.

Storm Prediction Center has listed our area as a high risk for large tornadoes. Yikes.

It looks surprisingly nice outside here in Wichita right now. It's a little cloudy, but the sun in still shining in the blue sky. It's comfortable with a gentle breeze blowing.

Fearing that this is the calm before the storm.

I'm watching a live feed of a tornado chaser who is in South Central Kansas (Randy Denzer) the storm they are following looks scary! I am home getting prepared for tonight. I'm thinking we'll just sleep in the basement lol! I'm not one for taking chances. My hubby thinks I'm silly, but I'd rather be safe than sorry! Stay safe everyone!!! Fingers crossed this storm just "blows" over

So it's now here - but we don't have any warnings or alerts going on. But that can certainly change!

I know it is completely nice and sunny out there right now...

Libby I just saw on KAKE-TV's FB page that the Wichita State campus is closing at 4pm, maybe Jeff's meeting will be rescheduled after all?

I'm pretty nervous. They're saying things like "intense tornado outbreak" between 8 pm and 3 am. Not sure I'll be sleeping tonight.

We are watching the weather really close here. Hubby closed our karate school for the night hoping to keep people safe at home. We have packed a snack bag and a "go" bag just in case we are hit, we will have a change of clothes, ect. Needless to say.....my hubby is a planner and always is prepared for worse case senerio. I don't know if I want to blame military or his time as a police officer for that!

Everyone stay safe! Hopefully we are all being overly cautious and it blows over with no event.

I'm home alone and listening to thunder all around me. The dog is scared to death. I have my bag packed and am ready to head for shelter if necessary.

Right now they're showing a tornado approaching Great Bend. My kids are about 30 minutes from there, but my parents have a nice basement with few windows so I'm not as scared for them.

Me, sitting in the trailer park alone... I might be a little scared. A coworker asked me to come over, but I'd feel bad leaving the dog, and dh will be home in a couple hours. Ack. I hate this.

We just got out of the shelter about about an hour ago...praising God that the first line of tornadoes passed to our north...at one point there was a large one headed directly towards us but it veered northeast.
The second line should be near Tara, or past her area by now. Praying for you, Tara!!!

I'm seeing sunshine out of my windows now...it's a beautiful thing.

Yep, KFOR is our NBC station.

The really awful thing...this mess is headed towards Missouri, where they have had more than their share of bad weather. I hate to think of those in Joplin having to deal with more tornadoes.

My family is safe here in oklahoma! I am still praying for you gals in Kansas and Missouri!

I talked to my cousin today from Joplin......she got a lot of damage at her house and didn't realize it until today. When the storm came in she loaded up and went to our grandma's house that had a basement. She went to her house today and it has major structure issues. The floor was unstable, she couldn't even collect a few things. I can't imagine another storm going through there again. Praying hard for that area.

We saw the KFOR feed, too. Scary.

The first line of storms is set to hit us in about an hour... hopefully everyone is staying safe and taking shelter where needed.

We are ready to head to the basement.. unfortunately Jeff is at work so I'm freaking out inwardly until about 930 when he'll be home. So glad you're okay Tara!!

That line from oklahoma is headed straight for Joplin and then me.. which is the absolute LAST thing they need right now

4 dead in oklahoma.

We have a weather radio. Also, if you have Walkie Talkies, you might check and see-- ours has a weather "channel" on the walkie!

Also, ladies looking to get hit tonight... remember the following:

-Bike Helmets (these help protect from flying debris if the storm goes over)
-Close-toed shoes and socks (good if you're climbing out of the rubble or something if things go REALLY bad)
-Leashes for pets (keeps them with you in case it gets really bad)

We're safe here in Wichita for now. It's quiet. Looking at the radar, I don't think we are in the clear yet, but I think most of the really bad stuff has gone around us.

Most of the severe stuff was north and east of us so far. We hid out in Pratt where dh works for about 1/2 hour as some stuff moved through around 4:00. I guess we got some hail and wind here while we were gone but nothing since then. Stay safe everyone!

For those in OKC, KOCO has a free Droid app (probably iPhone too, but I don't know for sure)...it's convenient, although I couldn't get reception in the storm shelter.

Looks like it's my turn now... Spring Hill (where I live) is right in the path of 4 or 5 mesocyclonic cells within the same storm system. Sara, it's headed your way, too... everything is going due north, it looks like.

No need to take shelter yet, but, a chance of it soon.

We spent the evening at my DH's Grandma's house down in the basement along with my MIL just in case. We got some thunder, lightning and really heavy rain but no hail that I know of. I loaded up all my important papers, photos, photo albums, paper scrapbooks, the kids' baby books and keepsake boxes, our wedding album and framed photos and a ton of other stuff (oh and my camera equipment too lol) and carted it all over there...Rob thought I was absolutely nuts but I would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to stuff that isn't replaceable!

I hope everyone stays safe the rest of the night!

LOL Shawna I have my wedding album, my camera, lenses and all my memory cards in the basement now. The kids packed up a few of their prized possession. Rather be safe than sorry.

We're still waiting to see what we're gonna get.

Oh and I have the weather channel app on my phone and a weather radio.

I'm following jim cantore and the weather channel on twitter and they said it was going to miss joplin by 4 miles but that there was a 2nd system behind it, hopefully that one will miss them as well.

I haven't heard from my cousin yet. We need to keep Darcy in our prayers though. There is a storm headed her way.

I think I am going to get a Tshirt made that says Tornadoes suck. I am seriously sick to my stomach worrying over everyone. There is also a toddler that is missing in one of our effected areas. A 3 year old that was ripped out of the mom's arms during the tornado! Mom and two siblings are in hospital and there is no sign of the 3 year old. I can't even imagine! I really need to stop watching the news but I can't seem to do it.
