Oh I had the best napper...until right about the time he turned 3. He went from sleeping 2-3 hours every afternoon to nothing like overnight. I battled with him for a week or so..and this was a kid who never fought me over naps...and then just gave up. I miss naps.

LOL, all is forgiven.

OK, sooo...Mason stopped having naps every day when he started Kindergarten, he was still 4, but he had naps on the days between school. He doesn't have them anymore now that he's 6...every once in a while but I voted 5 for him because up until he started grade 1, he'd have a nap on most days, even all summer.

Natalie, on the other hand...she's 4 and still naps some days, but it's getting harder and harder to make her lay down. So I voted 4 for her, though I may be able to stretch it out a littttle bit longer, lol.

I said under one.. though he never really napped.. so I'm counting the 'I'm a newborn and pass out every few hours' thing as his only napping.

we are impatient

I'll poll but I'll also tell you...

Nathaniel gave up naps at 2 and it was fine. He slept 8-8 and was rested and well adjusted during the day. He was also an only. Not overstimulated, etc.

Naomi TRIED to give up naps at 2 but I've found a way around that and she is responding to our new nap routine; she's sleeping in the afternoon again...it's so much better that way!

I think 3-4 is a more normal age to give up naps, kwim?

My sister's little boy who is the same age as Natalie hasn't napped in a couple years. And I think her daughter is pretty much done with them too (she's 2.5). I would not have been able to handle my children if they didn't nap.

My son turned 2 in September and still NEEDS naps. lol Not to say, he doesn't try to skip them somedays, but he always ends up taking one. The couple of days he has actually skipped it, he's ready to pass out at like 6pm.

My daughter stopped a little after turning 3---well, she stopped taking naps every day. For awhile it was every other day or so... and now it's maybe once every week or two. But she always does quiet time for an hour while the other one is napping, so I'm okay with it.

My 3 1/2 year old still takes naps daily (well, maybe 5 out of 7 days) but my 6 1/2 year old stopped napping when she was 4.

Thanks ladies, I suspected it varied a lot from kid-to-kid. I was scheduling a playdate for my almost-4 year old and said it would be best if we could get together after his nap and the other mom was incredulous that my son still takes naps. It never occurred to me that this might be odd. Glad to hear it is in the realm of normal

I didn't vote because Kylie still naps and she just turned three in December. She also goes to daycare all day and all the other kids in her room nap. I am sure sometime soon she will stop with the napping, but I kind of like that she still naps,

At 3.5 Jason was still napping willingly most days, but he had a lot of trouble getting to sleep at night. We finally decided that we were done with naps and stopped letting him take one. Almost immediately bedtime dropped back to 7:30 or so and stopped being such a battle.

Ben will be 3 in March and still takes a daily nap. Our problem is that he often falls asleep in the car on the way home from school (noon-ish). In the last week or so he stopped sleeping through the transfer to his bed , so he ends up taking too short a nap. Then he either catnaps on the floor around 4 and stays up until 9 or is in bed for the night by 5:30. It's driving me crazy!

I wish I could say she still took naps (I sure need them LOL), but Rachel stopped on her own at about 2 yrs 3 months. Of course she generally sleeps 11 or 12 hours straight at night, and always has...but still!

Ryan at 4 (and it was PAST time for him to give up). He's a terrible sleeper. Caroline still naps at 3 and probably will forever. That girl is a sleeper.

Both my boys napped until they were 5. Then, when my oldest started kindergarten, he would nap on the weekends with his brother.

DH & I still nap on weekends whenever we can LOL!

I would die if my kids didn't nap. Like, literally, die. Katie and Paul are 3 and 2, and they both still take 3 hour naps every day. And if they choose not to sleep for some reason, I don't care. They're in their room, on their bed, until I see fit to get them out. It's the only thing that keeps me sane. I'll be in here crying the day Katie decides she won't nap anymore.

So...I didn't vote. They haven't stopped yet!

Faith is 5 and will occasionally nap... Dom still does nearly every day. They absolutely take an hour of quiet time whether they freaking like it or not, though! Hehe.

It was after she turned 3. I think she was maybe 3.5 when she dropped naps altogether. But every now and then, she will take a random nap in the afternoon. I miss naps!

Cody and Jenna both stopped completely around their first birthday, so not what I wanted, but I could NOT get them to nap no matter what!
Xander stopped around 4, and Quinten, who will be 4 in a few months, still occasionally naps (I won't make him have one, but I won't stop him from having one either).

I voted 2 but really it was more like 18 months. I know that sounds horrible, but we got sick and tired of fighting her. My daughter was a horrible sleeper and she would fight you tooth and nail, scream for 3+ hrs and still never fall asleep. A few months later, she was finally sleeping through the night at 2 years old. She's sleep from about 7:30pm until 9am the next morning. So she got enough sleep and we finally slept and hubby and I sighed a big sigh of relief. No more fights, finally a good night's rest. I would say that if at all possible they still need a nap until around kindergarten, but some kids are going to be difficult like mine was.
Choose your battles wisely- best parenting advice I ever got.

I couldn't really answer, because I only have one child who hasn't stopped napping yet. She just turned 3 and she still naps 2-3 hours a day. This kid LOVES her sleep and she really needs the extra sleep during the day at this point because the only time she is really hard to deal with is if she hasn't had enough sleep. But, I think she gets her sleepiness from me, because I napped a lot when I was a kid.

DS1 never napped, even as a newborn he simply passed out from sheer exhaustion at random intervals. He gave that up by the time he was 2. DS2 napped great but it became a challenge when he was 3 because his naptime was during the time we had to go pict up his brother from preschool. He still naps. He falls asleep on the school bus to & from preschool in the afternoon & gets about 30 minutes in one way

both my girls quite around 2.5 or 3 years of age. But my DS (who just turned 4 in November) still take a daily 3 hour nap. I think my youngest DS is going to follow in my DD's foot steps because he is barely one and I only get a one hour nap out of him on a good day!!!

Garrett stopped napping when I got pregnant with Lance. Great timing, huh? So he was almost 2 years old.

Lance still naps if I make him. Sometimes it is easier just to put him to bed early. He is almost 4.

My youngest stopped taking naps around 20 months, and since then (she's 3 now) she's been sleeping 6PM - 5 AM.
