Default Oscar was yellow?!

Did you know that when Sesame Street started out Oscar the Grouch was a yellowish orange color?!! I had no idea!

My boyfriend (who is a little older than me so the Old School ones are from when he was little) and I are watching one of the Sesame Street Old School DVDs and Oscar's not green!! I'm shocked!!

Guess they needed to use all of the yellow on Big Bird and didn't have enough for Oscar. I agree with Traci...he looks much better green....

Rubber Duckie I am awfully fond of YOU!
We love Sesame Street here, I don't remember him being anything but green either, but my hubby has watched those DVD's and he told me "I know that" when I asked him if he knew.
He also watches old episodes of School House Rocks!

Actually, in the beginning of S. St. Big Bird was different too! His voice was different and his head was 1/4 the size of what everyone knows it as! Just to give you a time frame of the years we're talking about Jason was born in '70 and I was born in '83. Elmo wasn't around when I was born either but Jason keeps saying "I hate that Elmo...he's a loud mouth!" LOL. I think him and Zoe are kind of cute but it's hilarious to hear Jason get all pissy about the newer characters!

Does anyone remember when Snuffy was only Big Bird's imaginary friend and no one but BB could see him? Now he's just another character, but he started out as just an imaginary friend.

Please don't think I'm weird, but Oscar was one of my favorites. My all time favorite is Grover!! Perhaps they changed Oscar to green because he lived in a trash can? LOL

Oops. I didn't mean to upset anyone. My twisted sense of humor strikes again. I just say that because for the longest time I couldn't figure out if Big Bird was a boy or girl and finally came to the consensus that s/he's both.

Thats it Im strange! Could never get into Sesame Street even as a child! I tried again with my DDs in their early years - just didmt get it!!
I remember a Sat morning program here called Hey Hey Its Saturday - It was such a huge hit with kids and parents they moved it to Saturday night so the big kids could join in the fun!
I did see Sesame Street Live when they toured (free tickets!) and I actually enjoyed that more than the TV program! Go figure! Give me Mr Bean over Big Bird anyday (I already know my a, b, zeds!!)

Haha - everyone's been too funny with this! Great to see how Sesame Street has (or hasn't) infiltrated your homes!!

I could never really figure out how old the characters were supposed to be on the subject of B.Bird being a 6-year-old boy!

Funny story...

When I was little, my parents bought me this talking Big Bird toy.. IT FREAKED me out. I hated the stupid thing. I didn't relax till the day I watched my mom HAND it to the garbage man and it drove away in the big smelly truck

So big bird.. is not my friend

And Angela.. you're one to talk

Do you think Oscar is more environmentally friendly being green? Maybe he was felt to be contributing to the worlds global warming problems being yellow!
Since you guys have so much time on your hands I thought Id let you ponder that!

from a fellow freak but not a fan who also has too much time on her hands!!

I have some regular old boring gummy worms OR I have the kind with sour stuff all over them, which would you like...I tend to lean toward the sour ones, but if I eat to many my tounge hurts and gets all raw...I never seem to realize this till its too late though.
So what's your poison?

Worm burn - mmm - never had that before, Shannon - sounds rather painful!

LOL! Lauren - he matches his garbage can better now that he's green! Far more fashionable and colour savvy - an orangey yellow just wouldnt cut it with garbo green! (or is his can still silver? oh I so hope not - then he definitely wouldnt be a GREEN green!)
