I’m just curious...
Tell me your kids’ names and age and if you’re working or not.
I just want to see who I can relate to in the forum, who is at the same point in life...

Logan - Just turned 18.
For now, I work part time. I worked full time for many, many years when my daughter was younger, and I hated it. I always felt pulled in so many directions, like I was either letting my child down or letting my job down. I transitioned to part time 4.5 years ago, and it has been amazing. With my daughter leaving for college in the fall though (), it really no longer makes sense for me to stay part time, so I am hoping my job will offer me something full time so that I can have health insurance again!

Lainey - 11
Aubrey - 9 I'm a SAHM and a military wife. We actually joined the military almost 11 years ago b/c it was breaking my heart that I was working 70-90 hours a week and my husband around 60 so neither of us was seeing our baby. . I'd love to go back to work part time now but I see it as adding another stressor to our family as my husband's job doesn't allow him a consistent schedule and he often leaves for weeks or months at a time for training or special missions. (He works Presidental support.) I'm hoping a position in our school district opens up--that's about the only thing that would work for me. We have no family or friends nearby and move every other year or something like that so I just tell myself that being home as my children's constant is most important right now. But it's so boring! I know, I know... first world problems. Lol... Thank heavens I have my scrapping and reading hobbies! :P |

I think I'm close in age to many of you with younger kids (I'm 42) but I can't have kids and when I married a man 10 years older than me, I gained three stepchildren. I'm actually closer in age to my eldest stepson than I am to my husband:
Jay - 33 Michael - 29 Veronica - 22 Veronica is living with us right now, for the gap between her December graduation from Baylor and her September start of grad school. I'm a newly-minted grandmother; when Jay married in March, he became stepfather and I became Amma to two awesome little dudes, ages 6 and 8. Work-wise, I had to give up my career 6.5 years ago because of health issues (chronic treatment-resistant daily migraines, CFIDS, and FMS) so I guess you could say I'm a housewife. I miss working SO much, and I pray I'm able to get back to it someday. I was a Product Manager for the B2B eBusiness suite of tools for a major HVAC manufacturer; I bridged the gap between Sales & Marketing and the IT team. |

I have two-
Daughter Hayden is 11 Son Declan is 8 I work part time (2 days/week) as a dental hygienist. It's seriously the best of both worlds. I feel like I'm home with the kids a lot but can still earn a decent paycheck for our family as well as keep my brain happy with work! As they get older, they seem to get busier with sports & activities, so I highly doubt I will ever go more than 2 days. Right now I work Tues/Wed (SO awesome!)

Ellie is almost 10, and Nate just turned 5 yesterday.
I work around 30 hours a week as the administrator of a local church. I love the people & the work is fine but it can get boring and lonely as I'm the only person on staff with regular office hours & can sometimes find myself working alone for most of the day. Living 25 minutes from my work + having kids in two different schools means I spend close to 2 hours in the car every day going back & forth so it feels more like 35 hours a week when all is said & done. I was a SAHM for most of my children's lives but not by choice. It is not a good fit for me or my emotional health. In an ideal world, I'd love to work from home but I don't have enough experience in any particular field to stand out amongst the 100s (or 1000s) of applications remote jobs receive. |

I have three boys 15, 12 and almost 2. Since becoming a mother, I have worked full time (minus maternity leaves and a 9 month stint back when my MDS was 1). I am a Sr. Director at a F100/G250 company.

Caroline- 5 About 3 months ago, I returned to work half-days as a preschool teacher. I'm my daughter's teacher which is both amazing and challenging. I've agreed to stay on for next year for half-day/mornings. It's my ideal job--I taught 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade before my kids were born and I don't want to return to teaching full time.

I'm a stay at home mom and we homeschool. I really am not looking forward to working outside of the home... I really don't like most people. :P Hubby is pushing that when Jake graduates - I only have 6 years left - I have to find a job to pay for college. *sigh*

No kids for a variety of reasons
Currently I am a research interviewer for a United Nations report on housing for people with disabilities - that contract is until mid June at this point. I also sit on a governance board for a community law centre that specialises in disability as well as on a fund moderation panel for a disability service provider. In saying all that, none of that work is enough to pay the bills or is long term so for the past 3 1/2 years I’ve also been looking for work in the disability sector (not home help though)

My kids are 25, 23, 19 & 14 (the older 2 are on their own - 19 year old is a college student). I work part-time out of my home doing bookkeeping. My husband has a demanding job with long hours & some travel out of country, so it works best for us right now for me to be home.

My kids are all adults: Sam will be 30 in August, Hannah 28, and Campbell is 20. Sam lives up in Portland and works in the music business. Hannah is working on her PhD at Rutgers. Campbell lives in Eugene, where I do, and works. School didn't fit well for him. I was a SAHM for a long time, but started working again about 8 years ago. I work in group accounting for Royal Caribbean...but don't ask me about cruises. LOL!

I am the grandma here; I have 2 children who are both over the age of 30 plus I have 8 grandchildren plus 1 angel grandson.
My grandchildren are 14, 2 - 11, 3 - 9 and 2 - 6. I did stay home for the first 5 years of my oldest child's life but when she started kindergarden I went to work. It worked out well also for the youngest who got to spend the day with grandma & grandpa.

I bet I'm one of the oldest members. My kids are grown, in their 30's and I've got 4 grandkids. I had my kids at a very young age and it's been wonderful to hang out with them as adults as we all have similar interests and enjoy spending time together. We like the same music, tv shows, fashion, etc.
I work at home and hang out all day with Taz (my doodle) while hubs goes off to work.

My DD is 11.5 and my DS is 7.
I am a freelance editor, but I'm stepping back from that. (I work from home, which is great because it means we don't need childcare.) Recently I got accepted as a substitute teacher in my children's district. The school year is almost over, so I guess I'll actually start subbing next school year.

I like having a purpose that is outside of my house, but I hate that my classes are an hour and a half apart so I'm stuck at school from 10:30-3 every day. Next year, my schedule will be two classes from 8:30-10:30, and then I'll be free. And being free is my favorite.

Ben-13 Lauren-10 I was a SAHM until Lauren started kindergarten, then I went back to work part time teaching preschool. It's the best of both worlds for me. I get a paycheck, but I'm home any time my kids are. We have the same vacations, snow days, etc. and my hours let me be home until they go to school and beat them home in the afternoon. I always thought I'd be back working full time by now, but I don't know if we'll reach a point where I can do that. Ben has Smith-Magenis Syndrome, a genetic disorder that includes high functioning autism, ADHD, a speech disorder, a sleep disorder, and more. When he's not in school, I have to be with him. Dan works long hours--he's gone 12 hours a day, sometimes more--and we don't have any local family. Finding good after school care and camps is harder and much more expensive for kids with special needs.

I knew Rachel and I had kids almost the same ages...
Brady - 15 Drew -12 Mallory -10 I’m pretty much a stay at home mom. I teach a fitness class 3x’s a week and do get paid for that. However, I consider it a productive hobby because when you look at how much time I invest (on top of buying clothes, shoes, music, etc), it’s not like I’m coming out ahead. Lol. But I do love it and it provides me the opportunity to interact with other adults and make new friends! |

Cole (9 will be 10 in June)
Cade (5 birthday in November) Audrey (2 just turned 2 in April) I definitely stay home and I also keep a little girl. Sometimes all week sometimes three days it just depends. She's my cousins daughter. I also get another nine year old off the bus in the afternoon and he stays maybe an hour sometimes less. I also help my neighbor (her husband is in the military) Her son is 5. She needs to leave for work 10-15 minutes prior to the bus so I just get her son on the bus. I always say I have at least 3-4 kids all day. I also make shirts and decals. Basically whatever I feel like making.

I stay home and have homeschooled the last 12 years. But that's about to end as my son is graduating! I am an architect and will likely work part time in the fall. I'm hoping to take the summer off!

It must be hard "starting over" ... unless you have multiples, you're starting over every time you have a child

I'm a solo mum of twin
A boy and a girl, they are 6 years old (they are from end of february). Actually I'm a stay at home mom but I'm a pediatric nurse in a maternity unit. My son seems to have special needs but we are still not sure if it's true and what he really have. Sometime things seems getting better and sometimes things getting harder. We don't know exactly what he could have or if he is a "normal" little boy who just need more time. Since he changes school (he have been bullied at the old one) he seems to do progress and his new teacher is happy with him but we see there's lot's of difference with his twin sister (not comparing them, just see it) so we don't really know if we have to worry or just letting him take his time. Sometimes it really makes me feel worry and stress for him. |
