Wireless Harddrives?
Anyone have one?
I really want one so I can scrapbook on my laptop as well as my desktop. What do you have? Do you love it? |

MamaBee's DH (and technical advisor) here... I have never heard of a wireless hard drive. Doesn't mean they don't exist, but I haven't heard of one. It sounds like getting some Network Attached Storage (NAS) would be helpful to you. Essentially, it is a hard drive that can be put on your network, and accessed by any computer on your network.
Just this weekend, I updated our NAS system to 4TB of space because of all these crazy sized layouts. You're welcome Beck. We have had good luck with Buffalo Technologies NAS units - and just upgraded to a Synology unit because of some new geek features it has.

I have a LaCie 2Big that is hooked up to our desktop machine and then I can access it over the network. The only drawback is that it is a lot slower than if I was attached directly to it. So if you aren't worried about speed you could work that way but I just have a portable hard drive that I use as a second copy of all my digital supplies that I can hook up to my computer directly and still work on my laptop. Plus I can take it with me when we travel and still scrap!

I needed to buy a new hard drive recently and was really really tempted to go for one, but at 3 times the price of a portable hard drive, I couldn't justify the cost in the end. I went for a little portable drive, which is no bigger or heavier than my phone, and it's so easy to just plug into my laptop when I need it. No need for a dedicated power source for it, just connect it via usb and it's good to go so it's easy to move from deskop to laptop..

We have a EHD that we access over wifi...so wireless. It's great for backup! It's harder to access as my main use because it has so much to load. I'd open a kit and it wouldn't fully load so I only saw half the elements (preview). The files were there though so we started using it as a form of backup. We have really high speed internet so we felt like that wasn't the issue. I use it for all of my layered files, all of my digiscrap stuff, all photos, and any videos we want to watch.
Hope that helps! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
