We use a blend of hydrogen peroxide and water for our first pass, then vinegar and water for the 2nd and 3rd pass. We rarely use any carpet shampoo because it can leave so much residue behind that just attracts more stains.
We use the Hydrogen Peroxide and Vinegar to help kill mold spores that are in everyone's carpets, and any other 'buggies' that might be living there (the same way you have dust mites in your beds, etc).
