Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I love carpet. Almost every house in New Zealand (besides the very expensive ones) will have carpet in all but the kitchen, bathroom, toilet and laundry. A big reason for that is that we don't have central heating like I think a lot of US homes do, and underfloor heating is very expensive too. It gets cold here in the winter, and the carpet helps insulate the house. If you walk into a house that doesn't have carpet in the living areas here, you automatically think "Whoa, they're rich!"
