Trivial Tuesday 9/26 - What's the worst?

Just have to say - I'm jealous of all of you that don't have to set an alarm (from last week's question) lol! One day I'll get there.

I'm all for saving the environment and trying to be greener, cut my carbon footprint and do better. But that doesn't mean some of the current realities in order to do that aren't a bit ...annoying.

This week - pick the worst of these 3 options:

- Cardboard Straws
- Bamboo cutlery
- Forgetting your reusable bags in the car (or worse, at home)

And yes, you can only pick one :)

Bamboo cutlery. Hands down, I'd rather use my hands lol! It changes the taste of the food, and I just don't like the texture on my tongue.

Cardboard straw. YUCK!

Totally agree! And I was listening to a show and apparently it would ultimately be more polluting to use these straws. They want to replace them with metal straws so they can be reused and cleaned. I don't know if it will be any less bad.

(I think I still don't use Bamboo cutlery, Interesting to know!
We have reusable cutlery but I don't know what is the material, no particular taste at least.)

Costco has new lids for their fountain pop that don't need a straw! I hope more people go towards this, as I like that way more. I know that there are things you need a straw - can't imagine drinking a milkshake by tipping my head back and trying to get some out lol - but the lids where you can just drink out of it is way better!

I would have to say cardboard straws as well! Gross!!

The fast food restaurants in our area don't give out straws unless you ask for on (and then they are plastic).

I read somewhere that these lids actually use more plastic than the previous lid + plastic straw combo did. :D:D:D:w00t:

I think for me, paper straws are the worst of those 3 options. Especially a paper straw with a milkshake or frappucino!

I have never seen or used bamboo cutlery...interesting.
For me it is the straw all the way. I like my straws and can't stand the cardboard ones that get soggy while you are using them. I have been tempted to throw a metal one in my bag to take with me. We use the metal ones at home and don't mind them at all.

I also hate cardboard or paper straws. They seem to get soggy and limp. I am guessing I am taking too long to drink my soda! :)

I almost always forget to bring my re-useable bags in the car. I have tons of them but 8/10 times I forget to bring them into the store with me.

I understand the reasoning behind the cardboard straws but...ugh...yuck. A soggy disintegrating straw as you try to enjoy your beverage is so frustrating.

bienejen 09-26-2023 11:27 PM

I don't think I've ever seen bamboo cutlery. The paper straws are gross. They feel weird and get soggy. Ewwww. We have some metal straws but somehow we've never used them. I like the idea of them but then what do you do with a sticky or messy straw once you're done with your drink and you're not at home?

nietis 09-26-2023 11:33 PM

We use a lot of bamboo cutleries here, especially chopsticks, so it's kind of unavoidable and they grow on us.

My Tupperware ones come in a pouch, you can put it back in there and then wash when you get home. But then the pouch is gross. It's a thing.

- Forgetting your reusable bags in the car

I do this every single time I go to someplace that needs these. I have so many of them and forget them every time. I have taken to just buying paper bags at Aldi since I forget the reuseable ones. lol

craftytam 09-27-2023 12:49 PM

Cardboard straws for sure!
I've never seen bamboo cutlery.

StacyLynn 09-28-2023 01:00 PM

For me its the Paper/cardboard straws.

I have never heard of or used bamboo cutlery.
And I keep my bags in my car, but our stores still use plastic bags. I recycle or reuse them.

MamaBee 09-28-2023 01:52 PM

Cardboard straws... I'm not a quick drinker so they always fall apart before I'm done. I carry my own straws, lol.

I've only used bamboo cutlery once - my brother-in-law that lives in Seattle ordered and had it shipped to our house for a cookout he was holding when he came into town to visit. It's better than dollar tree's plastic ware.

Aldi's is the only store that I need reusable bags - but they have boxes incase I forget. Plus - my hubby used to work for plastic company... give me all the bags. (btw, never argue with an engineer on what is worse plastic or paper haha.) Now, I select paper... hubby now works for a paper company... I know, I know... hahah

joelsgirl 09-28-2023 06:28 PM

Ugh, the plastic alternative straws are so stupid. How did paper ever get to be an option for something we stick in liquid and drink from??

I would think paper straws would be the absolute worst. I haven't used any since the switch was made. I've never seen bamboo utensils.

Tree City 09-28-2023 09:49 PM

forgetting your reusable bags, for sure!
cardboard straws: drink faster and it won't matter. ROFL. (Or just don't use a straw)
bamboo cutlery: I can't speak for others, but the bamboo cutlery I've used has been fine. But if I had problems with it, I would probably (definitely) run around screaming in rage rofl.
