NYE Plans?

Anyone have any fun plans or traditions for NYE?

My husband is going to be OOT visiting his son so I thought the kids and I would just be hanging around the house but then my sister invited Ellie and me over for a pajama party (we all got new pjs and slippers for Christmas) + movie night.

We'll be dropping Nate off at my parents' house on the way (his first time sleeping over at anyone's house without me!) so Ellie is just thrilled to death to get special time with my sister and me.

What abt y'all?!

We have booked a table at our favourite Chinese restaurant at just a 5 minutes ride from where we live. They are having a new year's eve event.
We used to celebrate with family, but this year it's different. I am really looking forward to having to do NOTHING at all, just slip our feet beneath the table and enjoy our dinner... We LOVE Chinese so I have high expectations! And what's even better, it's really just around the corner.

My father-in-law has his NYE radio show... hubby will have to go to edit logs and to put in the jokes that our son recorded and to tape the countdown. We usually go along - depends on the weather. If we don't go - then kiddo and I will find something to do - probably "New Years Around the World"... or maybe we could take that night to finally get at decorating the Gingerbread house... haha.

No matter what - at 11:59, Jake and I need to eat 12 pieces of herring for financial luck - it's a German thing. Hubby is allergic to fish, so he has to eat 12 grapes (the Spain version). Then off to bed - hubby has to get up early to do radio at 6am.

We will be at our cabin in the mountains....away from all of the craziness in town. It'll be the first time spending NYE there. I never make it till midnight. I can't remember the last time I did. :p

We are having friends over for a low key NYE party. Games, fire in the fire pit, pot luck dinner and drinks. Our kids even invited a few friends. Looking forward to bringing in the new year with some of my favorite people!

I work 6 am to 4 pm and then Cheyanne works 5 pm to 9 pm. She has one friend who has spent NYE with us for the past few years and she's coming over this year as well. They'll hang out while I work and then we're having a taco bar for dinner before Cheyanne heads to work. Sarah will hang out and watch movies with me and when Cheyanne gets home we'll have our favorite apps and play dominoes and hang out until I go to bed (before midnight since I have to work at 6 am on NYD).

We have my Brother-in-law's family coming to visit. So, I think it will be a night in for us. Probably ordering Chinese for dinner, which is what we usually eat. My brother is having a party at his house and we were hoping to go. My whole family will be there, but I'm 99% sure my BIL won't want to go. Especially since the 2 year old will probably need to be in bed early. :/

No. NYE isn't a big thing in our house. I think my niece is flying out to the States
that night, so she and her family might stop by for dinner earlier, but it's not specifically NYE stuff.

Last year kiddo invited a friend over and we had lots of apps and watched movies. We were hoping to do that again, but everything is all off, so we are actually going across the state to celebrate Christmas with my dad's side of the family. So not sure what we are doing since we aren't at our own house. Hopefully my sister will come over with a niece and nephews and we will all do something.

Usually we do appetizers and just hang out with board games and such, but last year we went to a friend's house, they invited us over again this year, so I think that's the plan.

I just joked with hubby about letting our son with his parents and go out to have a few drinks for the NYE, though, I don't think I have it in me to leave my son and have fun without him.

Nothing much. My parents are visiting now, so DH and I got to go out alone tonight. That will be our NYE celebration. On the real NYE we'll order dinner in, the oldest kid will stay up to midnight with me, and DH and the younger 2 will go to sleep on time. We're quite the exciting family! 😁

Normally, we go to dinner and a movie.

This year, we don't have a baby sitter, so I think we will make pizza and watch a movie at home.

KingsQueen82 12-28-2016 12:18 AM

We usually just do pizza, board games and a movie at home with our girls but this year we're going to take them out to see the new movie Sing. I do believe I'm more excited about seeing it than they are! Lol! It looks so cute!

This is the first year in a while we won't be having a sleepover pajama party. It's my younger DD's birthday. She's turning 13 and didn't want a party this year, so we are going to their favorite Korean restaurant and watching a movie in the evening. I'll be ringing in the new year thinking about how old I am with all teenage kids. LOL

We have never really done anything for NYE, my husband who was (retired) a firefighter seemed to always work the next day. Since he retired (and doing a job that has 'regular' office hours) We usually get a bottle of bubbly watch a movie or the special events on tv and quietly see the next year happen.

Well we got guilt-tripped into traveling to my in-laws because we spent Christmas with my family, so we will be driving that day and then most likely be sitting around doing nothing while some movie or tv show I'm not excited about plays on the TV. (Last time it was hours of Big Bang Theory haha) Hopefully there will be limited family drama but since my BIL is going to be there now because his girlfriend dumped him, who knows.

Can you tell I'm super excited about this trip? :D

We go to dinner every year. This year we are going to a hibachi place. Other than that we don't really do anything. We just kinda hang out and do nothing.

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to make some appetizers or something for after dinner while we all just hang out at the house and if I'm going to make anything other than pork and sauerkraut for New Years day.

My guy and I are going to VEGAS!! Super excited never rang in the new year anywhere exciting really (the last two years have been at the casino in his hometown which is always fun)

elk2009 12-29-2016 05:39 PM

We always have friends over for a big NYE fondue party. There is dinner, a Bingo tournament with prizes for the kids and fireworks. We usually watch the ball drop in NY, and since we are in AZ, we are done around 10 and folks can get home before too many of the crazies hit the road.

Sweeet 12-30-2016 08:42 AM

Nothing for us...hubby is "on call" for snow removal IF it snows in the area (the labs) where he works...this is the 2nd year and we are really getting tired of this crap! LOL We will watch all the specials for NYE on TV, etc....maybe we'll make a luminaria and have a shot..who knows...can't get crazy cuz of the "on call"..blech...

julifish 12-30-2016 10:10 AM

We are hosting a low key party and I honestly can't wait! A chill night with some friends is just what the doctor ordered.

Looking forward to putting away all this Christmas stuff the next day b/c I'm so done.
