A Favor to Ask of the Designers

This may have already been addressed in the past, but I couldn't find it if it has. I'm on a MACbook and every time I buy/download a new kit, I go through and add the preview image icon with the Image2icon App to each folder. It is extremely time consuming, but I like being able to see what's in my folders when I open up my stash external drive. This was automatic when I was on a PC using Windows. Unfortunately, all you get on a MAC are little blue folders. :glare:

This morning I downloaded a kit from JoCee Designs and she went in and added the Mac Icon with all of the folders in the kit. So, when I downloaded her kit, all of the folders had the preview image instead of the little blue folders. I don't know exactly what she did to make that happen, but I'm a happy camper.

It would be AMAZING if all the designers could do this too.

As a fellow Mac user I agree

I just use image to Icons and do it myself it literally takes 2 seconds :) There are a few designers who do it but I'm assuming not all designers use Macs and are aware of this trick.

I do this myself too...it's pretty easy...

Control > copy image of the preview
Click on folder you want the image tagged to > Command I [get info]
Click on blue folder > Command V [paste]

Easy peasy!

I don't do it just because I don't know really what the universal preference would be?

I personally keep my folders blue because I find the previews distracting but I could very well be in the minority for that.. I guess I assume that those who want to have the folders as the preview would have an easier time changing it vs those that don't want to have the preview and not knowing how to change it back?

I'm for sure open to changing though if this is how most people would like to have it done.

I do this myself (it doesn't take longer than a couple seconds on my end?) but I think it also matters if the designer uses a Mac or not. Those that design on a PC I don't know if it would work. I think the PC thing is that it follows whatever is called 'folder.jpg' automatically, but Macs don't respect that and you have to do it yourself, unless the designer did it with their Mac.

Since I don't use a mac, I have no idea how I would do that or even if I can. What does mac respect and follow? Is there another naming convention? If it is just in a name, that could be done easily enough.

As someone who doesn't use a Mac, I have had to delete a lot of weird files (like duplicates of each file but with no previews and a period in front of the file name) and some mascox or something from Mac designers. It seems like making something easy for one user will make it harder for others.

I've had that too. MACOSX I think is the folder? I think with people using different operating systems and different software to scrap, no format will work for everyone.

On a Mac you just get a plain blue folder as the norm. I like making my folders show the kit preview. I use the Image2Icon app and its just super easy to make the blue folder turn into the preview. That way its just easy for me to find kits I'm looking for since I'm a visual person.

So I think that unless you are a designer who uses a Mac its a bit of a pain to make it that way for mac users.
